Did you know that #REI has supported 100% renewable energy across all its stores and operations for more than 10 years? 🌎☀️ In the spirit of being a cooperative, we are also committed to helping our community and partners reach similar goals. In North Carolina, we have teamed up with Nester Hosiery LLC —one of our largest manufacturers of hiking socks—to secure renewable energy from local solar projects developed by Sol Systems. This North Carolina renewable energy supports the electricity used by REI's 7 North Carolina stores and Nester's Mount Airy-based manufacturing facility, helping both organizations contribute to the growth of clean energy in the region. #REI’s Laura Kelley spoke with Linda Baker on all things Re/Supply for her latest piece in The New York Times on the booming trend surrounding apparel resale. As a co-op with a 60-year legacy in circular commerce, we see our Re/Supply program to reuse gear, reduce waste and make a sustainable impact as a cornerstone of our work. We’re beyond proud of this program to help co-op members lower their collective carbon impact by maximizing the life of made-to-last products and look forward to watching the resale space continue to grow. I am proud to work for a purpose-driven organization. As a resident of North Carolina, the devastation in Western NC from Hurricane Helene is immense and so is the recovery and relief effort needed for its residents and businesses. Not only has REI contributed financially, but they also came through yesterday to address a few specific needs in the form of camping stoves and fuel! Thanks to Mikaela Swanlund and the store team at REI #108 in Greensboro NC. Thank you REI for living your values.

Celebrating #Pride isn’t just for the month of June. #REI is committed to supporting employees in celebrating and honoring LGBTQ+ Pride throughout the entire year. The co-op's Prism Inclusion Network (ERG), consisting of members who identify across a spectrum of LGBTQ+ communities, including allies who participate to learn and support their fellow employees, provides many opportunities for collective engagement throughout the year. Here are a few highlights of how we are getting #OutsideWithPride in 2024: - Expressions of creativity: REI collaborated with Lisa Sy (@lisasystudio), a designer and artist on a vibrant illustration capturing the Progress Flag that celebrates the unapologetic joy and freedom of embracing the outdoors and the full spectrum of queer identity. Today, in our co-op community, we honor Juneteenth and encourage our teams to foster discussions that promote unity and share the significance of this day of recognition. In celebration, we collaborated with Stephanie Singleton (@stephaniesing), an illustrator based in Toronto, Ontario, to create a commemorative poster. Stephanie's artwork integrates decorative elements that narrate diverse stories. This illustration showcases flowers rooted in her family's heritage, symbolizing gratitude for the freedom to explore and honoring the foundations laid by her ancestors.
