About us
Named a World Changing Idea by Fast Company, Renewal Mill is an award-winning, next-generation ingredient company that fights global food loss by upcycling byproducts from food manufacturing into premium ingredients and plant-based products. We’re building a new circular economy of food that’s better for the people and the planet we love. Our flagship ingredient is organic okara, a high fiber, high protein, gluten-free flour made from the nutritious soybean pulp leftover when you make soy milk. But, okara is just the beginning. Food waste is the world's $1.2 trillion problem, and our process can be applied to an array of byproducts, from oat pulp to potato peels to grape pomace, almond meal, and more. Backed by some of the top culinary minds in the industry and winner of the Institute of Food Technologists' (IFT) Future Food Disruptor of the Year award, Renewal Mill aims to be the food industry's go-to supplier for upcycled ingredients that will define the future of sustainable food. Founded in 2016, we're proud to be a woman-owned business based in Oakland, CA.

We’re beyond excited to introduce Upcycled Broken Oats, a new ingredient from Renewal Mill created in partnership with a leading oat processor. These rolled oat fragments, pulled from a major production line, offer a gluten-free and ready-to-eat solution for bars, granola, cookies, and cereal blends. They have a slightly higher fiber content and are competitively priced to the market, making them a no brainer for formulators across applications. 📩 Reach out at info@renewalmill.com 📄 https://lnkd.in/epfbtSGj - We’re grateful to our investors at Beyond Impact VC for representing us at LOOP Forum 2025 in Copenhagen and proud to be part of a portfolio working to more sustainable food system. It’s also exciting overall to see Beyond Impact deepen its presence in the Nordics and Benelux region, which will surely support overall growth in much needed solutions investment. Shoutout to fellow portfolio companies Yeastup AG and PLHYDE who were also represented, alongside many new relationships forming in the region. Lastly, thanks to Copenhagen Capacity and the many local partners who are helping expand the impact ecosystem in Northern Europe. And thank you to Sagar T., Claire Smith, and the entire Beyond team for your continued partnership and belief in our work!

One of the reasons I love my job is I get to meet extraordinary people who are making the world a better place. I met Claire Schlemme about 10 years ago when we were organizing an event with Future Food Institute. Claire came all the way from the US to Valencia to join our summit and shared the great work Renewal Mill has been consistently doing throughout all these years to fight food waste. I'm linking an interview with Claire in the comments bellow where you can get to know her better and learn about the magic behind #okara flour (low carb flour made from the pulp from leftover of soy milk processing). Let's "bake the most of our food system". KM ZERO Food Innovation Hub #foodwaste #upcycling #foodsystem - Renewal Mill reposted this

🌱 I can't stop thinking about the positive energy at Yale's first Business & the Environment Conference! After months of organizing, coordinating speakers and sponsors, and getting on stage as an emcee, it was beyond rewarding to see the conversations come to life. I am so honored to have worked alongside our incredible team to bring together thought leaders across sectors, industries, and scales to discuss what sustainable growth really means. The U.S. regulatory environment presents a challenge for sustainability advocates in the private sector, and many corporations feel pressured to focus almost exclusively on decarbonization, making it difficult to take on broader sustainability goals. But what stood out to me at this conference was the incredible momentum at the local level and how niche initiatives are carving out real economic pathways for sustainability. 💡 Shoutout to the insightful leaders who highlighted this perspective, including Dan Horan at Five Acre Farms, Claire Schlemme at Renewal Mill, and Sebastianne Kent at PwC. I'm inspired by the potential for innovation and the ability to reimagine what growth and stewardship can look like. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, especially my co-lead Nico Valette and our teammates Nataliia Nevinchana and Ivanna H., the executive committee Derek Nong and Reeti Sethi, and the many brilliant speakers who joined us. Special appreciation to the experts I worked with directly: Daniel Peerless, Sebastianne Kent, Dan Horan, Walter Jetz, and my former colleague Kyle Coumas, MBA - your insights and contributions made this event what it was! And of course, thank you to Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY), Yale School of the Environment, and Yale School of Management for facilitating these incredible spaces. This is just the beginning. I'm grateful to work in a field with so many brilliant, passionate people, and cannot wait to see how we continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for economic growth and environmental stewardship.
