World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to improving human life. The United Nations General Assembly declared that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. Reuter-Stokes has a rich history of supporting the space sector manufacturing more than 67,000 Helium-3 (³He) filled neutron detectors over the past 50+ years designed to characterize the elemental composition of the subject being studied. Did you know Reuter-Stokes detectors contributed to finding water on the moon? Indeed, technology made right here in Twinsburg, Ohio has been to the Moon, Mars, and is also set to make the journey to Titan (aka the largest of Saturn’s 146 moons). A Reuter-Stokes detector is even mid-way through a mission to land on a metal-rich asteroid named Psyche! Today was the Reuter-Stokes Family Picnic at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo! This outing is a great chance to get the team together outside of work and we appreciate the work that goes into planning it. We saw the lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) and trekked to the Cleveland Metroparks Nature Nook for a tasty lunch with all the cookout works... and an ice cream cart! We strive to cultivate a culture and environment where everyone feels they belong and can thrive and contribute—in and outside the office.#CompanyCulture #Family #Community

Maia Skocdopole in one word? Energized. Maia’s passion for science stems from her family tree! She credits her uncle, a geochemist specializing in climate research, for igniting her curiosity about the world and environment. While obtaining her bachelor’s in #physics from Kent State University, Maia worked with leading material scientists at the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute (AMLCI). Her internship focused on optical physics and computational modeling. She says this experience was the deciding factor to jump into the industry, rather than continue into graduate school. That’s where we come in! “It was during this time that I discovered Reuter-Stokes, which appealed to me due to its strong employee programs, benefits, and focus on the acquisition and management of knowledge,” says Maia, “Reuter-Stokes not only promotes growth through initiatives like the Employee Education Assistance Program, but also values the continuous development of future engineers and scientists.” She has spent nearly two years here at our Twinsburg facility, primarily working on Small Modular Reactor (SMR) projects. “My favorite part of the job is simulating and testing materials for #SMR applications,” Maia continues, “I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to expand my knowledge and expertise, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the advancement of #nuclear energy safeguards that will shape the future.” Her colleagues describe her as having “infectious enthusiasm” to learn, do right by the customer, and work to improve technology. In her spare time, she blends her passion for materials science with creativity through crafting with a variety of mediums—paper, plastic, clay, vinyl, and even resin! Maia and her husband enjoy hiking and kayaking together on the weekends when they’re not busy running their tabletop gaming and hobby store. “He runs it full-time,” she says, “It’s such a great way for us to connect with our community through shared love for games and fun hobbies.” Game on! #WeAreBakerHughes #CompanyCulture #EmployeeAppreciation #NuclearEnergy
