Saint Luke's team members volunteered for a day of service this week in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. One group assembled snack bags to donate to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City, supporting families with sick children by providing them with free hospitality near area hospitals, while another team sorted and organized clothes for Give SevenDays. It's wonderful to see our community united in helping those in need! #TeamSaintLukes 💙
Cervical cancer rates decreased from the 1970s through the 2000s. So why have they gotten worse in the past decade? Women of all ages can get cervical cancer, which is why screenings and vaccinations are essential. Dr. Cicy Li, an OB-GYN at Saint Luke’s Women’s Health North, appeared on Health News You Can Use to discuss cervical cancer prevention and offer a helpful tip on how mothers can prepare their daughters when it comes to cervical health.
For 12 years, Michelle has been a reliable and trusted member of the admitting team. She opens the Peet Center admitting desk at Saint Luke's Cancer Institute every morning, bright and early, to assist patients and visitors. She is the team's go-to source for help, and she's been a huge help by taking on additional projects. Michelle exhibits our core values daily at Saint Luke’s, and the patient access department is blessed to have her. We proudly presented Dr. Erin Khouri, a palliative medicine physician, with the Saint Luke's Physician of the Quarter Award for Q4 2024. Dr. Khouri has been with Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City for five years and become an influential and trusted leader of the palliative medicine team. She is kind, respectful, and always willing to lend a helping hand. She also teaches residents of UMKC School of Medicine and was instrumental in making the palliative medicine rotation what it is today. The Advanced Urologic Associates on the Saint Luke's East Hospital campus has achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in prostate cancer from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). SRC is an independent, nonprofit safety organization that has diligently accredited health care providers worldwide for more than twenty years. Health care facilities seeking SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure that they meet SRC's proven standards and requirements. This accomplishment is a testament to Saint Luke's and AUA's steadfast commitment to not only ensuring optimal outcomes and safety, but also delivering an unrivaled patient experience. From its beginnings as a small hospital in Kansas City more than 140 years ago, Saint Luke's has developed a long and rich history of caring for the community and meeting the needs of the people it serves. Lissa, our health sciences librarian, recently displayed an array of World War II artifacts from our historical archives at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City for visitors to explore the stories of our hospital. Today, Saint Luke's encompasses ten hospitals, dozens of physician practices, home care and hospice, behavioral health care, and much more. The uniforms may look a little different than they did in the 1800s, but our dedication to providing patients with the highest quality care close to home remains the same.
