About us
FIGHTING HUNGER AND FEEDING HOPE IN SAN ANTONIO AND SOUTHWEST TEXAS. The San Antonio Food Bank takes pride in fighting hunger, feeding hope in our 16 county service area. We believe that no child should go to bed hungry, adults should not have to choose between a hot meal and utilities, nor a senior sacrifice medical care for the sake of a meal. Founded in 1980, The San Antonio Food Bank has quickly grown to serve 58,000 individuals a week in one of the largest service areas in Texas. Our focus is for clients to have food for today but to also have the resources to be self-sufficient in the future. Fighting hunger is our number one priority but we also serve to educate and provide assistance in many other ways. We achieve this through our variety of programs and resources available to families, individuals, seniors, children, and military members in need. The work to end hunger in Texas is a joint effort with anti-hunger champions from all communities. Hunger in our communities impacts us all – regardless of race or gender. That's why it's important for the San Antonio Food Bank to commit to equal-opportunity hiring practices. - At this time of year, we often hear about the “season of giving” and the “spirit of the season.” But for many neighbors in our community, it is a season of need. The San Antonio Food Bank provides food for more than 100,000 individuals each week across a 29-county area, with seniors making up 33% of those we assist. Monica, a successful welder for 17 years, recently faced unexpected hardship. After the tragic loss of her daughter, she became the sole caretaker of her daughter’s son. Retired and living on a fixed income, this unexpected turn of events has created a season of need for her family. “I worked hard all my life, but now, with another mouth to feed, money is tight. I’ve never asked for assistance before, but the Food Bank was there for me.” Hunger knows no boundaries — it affects people of all ages and backgrounds. Many neighbors we serve are hardworking seniors like Monica, facing tough times despite best efforts and years of stability and self-sufficiency. Help us set the table for families this Thanksgiving by donating today. $1 provides 7 meals ➡️ safoodbank.org/donate

- Through the FoodShare program, #Starbucks works with food banks like ours to divert food from landfills, provide meals to communities in need and raise awareness on the issue of hunger. A recent FoodShare Capacity Building Grant helps support our drivers and team to rescue more food for Southwest Texans. Thank you for #FightingHunger and #FeedingHope.

In honor of #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth, we celebrate the roots that nourish our community—both figuratively and literally. Through our unique partnership with the National Park Service at Mission San Juan Capistrano, a World Heritage site, we cultivate food on land that has been farmed for over 300 years. 🌱 Using traditional irrigation methods from the historic acequia, we honor the Native people whose agricultural practices continue to provide for our neighbors in need today. This land is more than just soil—it’s a living connection to the past, feeding the present and shaping the future. Visit our farms this Saturday, November 9, and join us in contributing to providing fresh produce to those in need. 🍎 ➡️ https://bit.ly/3NX3u4C
