It discusses the concept of “whole-person care” to adequately respond to reimbursement and population trends. Patients who have experienced entrenched inequities have been marginalized for decades. Matthews asserts that the leading strategy to deliver equitable whole-person care is the prioritization and expansion of primary care services as well as technological advances, and more comprehensive data on race, ethnicity, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Kameron Matthews, MD, JD, FAAFP, is the Chief Health Officer of Cityblock Health, a health care provider for Medicaid, dually eligible, and lower-income Medicare beneficiaries that partners with community-based organizations and health plans to deliver medical care, behavioral health care, and social services virtually, in homes and in community-based clinics. Prior to joining Cityblock, Matthews worked as a staff physician at Cook County Jail and with Erie Family Health Center in Chicago. She also served as the Chief Medical Officer of Mile Square Health Center at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System.
