Let me tell you what this picture means to me. It’s dark but inside the Starlight stage house this morning were hundreds of children. Half of them had been to Starlight before, half of them had never been. They are about to see what live story telling and music can do. They are making a memory at a Kansas City landmark that will hopefully stay with them always and bring them back again some day. They are learning to be an audience member - when to listen, when to engage, when to applaud. They are experiencing something together - something they’ll talk about with their classmates and teachers after, and with their families when they go home. They will have different things that stick out to them in the story, different favorite parts and songs, and it will be the beginning of understanding how we experience art differently but together. It will make them think and bring them joy. If you ever think theatre is just one thing or just for one kind of people, here’s a reminder that it’s so much more. Grateful for the team led by Alex Jones who so well understand the value of this work and execute it so well, the donors like PNC and Children's Mercy Kansas City (who are people and businesses who care and willing to share their resources beyond their self interest) who fund these programs, and the school partners who believe these experiences matter for these little humans as they are growing up. While today and tomorrow are school field trip shows, there are two public performances of “Underneath a Magical Moon” Saturday at Starlight. I’ll be there with my favorite 4-year-old. As I stood in the wings this morning, unable to stop grinning, before walking out to greet them, I said to a colleague: “this is why I don’t think I’ll ever work in for-profit entertainment. It’s the kids.” If the headlines of the day get you down sometimes, remember there is also good happening in many places that you can be a part of. 💫 - ALL Tickets are Now Available to the 2025 AdventHealth Broadway Series! I am here for anything that leverages the power of storytelling and creative expression for community good, with a particular affinity in this chapter for ensuring young people have access to and benefit from the arts in tangible ways that serve them as developing people and the communities they live in as a result. 💫

Grateful and humbled to have worked alongside the incredible Variety KC team to host the recent Sweetheart Dance at Starlight. When Starlight launched the Arts Bridge program last year, we hoped for days like this. Utilizing the venue as a community space through partnerships naturally develops opportunities for meaningful connections and creativity. In this case, it created a safe space where people of all ages could dance, socialize, and party together! Many thanks to Marc Harrell, Ali O'Grady, Abby Martin, Beth Chappelow, Katie Jenkins, Lindsey Rood-Clifford, Trinidy Thompson, Ryan Britton, Bryce Jones for making it happen!- +5
