It’s been almost two weeks since I crossed the finish line of the NYC Marathon. The excitement has subsided, but the impact of the 26.2 miles I ran to inspire our scholars, families, and educators is long-lasting. It’s a reminder to find joy in hard things and that every day at SA, we’re helping our scholars fulfill their enormous potential — and demonstrating what’s possible for public education. This video is a reminder that it’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. - It’s National STEM Day and we have another brain teaser for you! Shifting perspective is valuable not only in puzzles and brain teasers, which have unique answers but also in open-ended, real-life problems. Comparing multiple solutions often reveals the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches. This brain teaser is from our 6th-grade math curriculum. The main point of the “shapes in shapes” puzzle is to help students see regrouping objects in a new way. (Hint: try altering your viewpoint by considering different physical angles.) So, how many triangles are in the figure below?
- Our math program is anything but average—it's truly extraordinary! Over 12 years, our scholars engage deeply with mathematics, developing essential problem-solving skills, conceptual understanding, and procedural fluency. Starting in kindergarten with a focus on number sense and operational fluency, they progress through to senior year, where they can choose electives like AP Statistics or participate in dual-enrollment courses. This comprehensive approach not only broadens their perspectives but also fosters a genuine appreciation for mathematics, preparing them to become experts in the field. We’re looking for passionate educators to join our team and help inspire the next generation of mathematical thinkers! https://brnw.ch/21wOsxJ
- "Teaching STEM at Success Academy has been very rewarding. I’ve spent my entire 7 year career at SA at Harlem 2 and so I’ve had the opportunity to help develop a lot of these young minds since they were in Kindergarten. Women, especially women of color are often underrepresented in STEM, but science is all about discovering the “why” behind what can sometimes seem impossible. I take pride in having been a longstanding example of that to the children in this community." - Ms. Hayden, ES STEM Teacher Success Academy is leading the charge in K-12 STEM education reform with an unparalleled curriculum focused on rigorous, real-world applications of scientific and mathematical principles. If you have a STEM background and are eager to inspire the next generation of innovators, we encourage you to apply to teach today! https://bit.ly/4hFoVov
- It’s SA STEM Week, and we have a fun brain teaser for you! This brain teaser comes straight from a 6th-grade logic lesson, and it’s all about changing your perspective! Perspective can help us avoid feeling stuck and encourage creative thinking. So, which of the shapes below do not make a box (with no gaps or extra paper sticking out) when folded? A) Blue + Yellow B) Yellow + Green C) Purple + Green D) Red + Blue Drop your answers in the comments!

Noah Ross - Head, Brand Strategy & Creative Ashley Kubly - Leader, SMO Coach Nic Jaspers - Leader, K-12 History Content Erin Daly - Lead, Operations Management Will Abbott - Leader, SMO Andrew Ferri - Specialist, Talent Acquisition If you’re running, we’ll be between miles 8 and 9 cheering you on as you approach the halfway point of the race! - If you missed this year's SA Classico, or want to experience the evening again, check out this recap! This was a great community event that brought families, staff, and scholars together from across our network of schools to watch an exciting game, enjoy a scholar-led halftime performance, and see the unveiling of our new athletics gear. Check it out and let us know your favorite part of the recap…it’s too hard for us to choose!
- Last week, we celebrated the first wave of seniors submitting college applications! Scholars from across SA HSLA-Manhattan and SA HSLA-Harlem came together to celebrate their classmates on this huge accomplishment. We are so excited to see seniors from both HSLA-HA and HSLA-MA continue to pursue the college or university of their dreams – a place they’ll be heading less than a year from now! Stay tuned as we begin to share more about their journeys and the college application process that we have set up at our high schools to support our graduating scholars.

- The SA community came together this week for our 2nd annual SA Classico matchup between High School of the Liberal Arts-Harlem and High School of the Liberal Arts - Manhattan. The sidelines were packed with families, staff, and scholars from all across our network of schools, cheering on and supporting our scholar-athletes in this big game. The sportsmanship and dedication shown on the field was inspiring to watch – especially for our younger soccer players who will one day participate in this iconic game. Congratulations to HSLA-Harlem for their win! This event also marked the debut of our new Success Athletics uniforms, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day. Together, we’re not only building a world-class athletics program but fostering a vibrant community that celebrates our youth and their achievements. Keep an eye out for our fresh look on the fields and courts of NYC!
