Make Waves with Swim Across America - Rhode Island
We’re calling all swimmers to participate in the annual Swim Across America - Rhode Island Open Water Swim on September 7th! This event helps raise funds for women's oncology research at Women & Infants Hospital. So, join us in making a splash in the fight against cancer. We had an inspiring week with Swim Across America – St. Louis! Olympians representing the group visited patients last Thursday, and on Saturday, 550+ swimmers joined us at Innsbrook Resort for the 9th annual open water swim, a fundraiser for Siteman Cancer Center. As of this morning, the group raised 280,000!DonationsmadethroughOctobercounttowardthe280,000! Donations made through October count toward the 280,000!DonationsmadethroughOctobercounttowardthe300,000 goal. Special thanks to Washington University physicians Melissa Reimers, MD, who highlighted her Swim Across America-funded research, and Milan Anadkat, MD, who oversaw skin cancer screenings at Saturday’s event. This past weekend, Swim Across America hosted a charity swim in Larchmont, NY, to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Our Weill Cornell Medicine community turned out to swim, volunteer, and raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Thanks to their incredible efforts, they raised a staggering $1.8M, a significant contribution that will significantly impact patient programs, research, and clinical trials.

Our team feels an enormous responsibility to the thousands who participate in our Swim Across America charity swims. It’s months, weeks, and days of planning. July 27th was one of our biggest, more than 1,000 in Long Island & Nantucket. All came out safely & the two communities are celebrating nearly $3M raised for cancer research and patient support. Thank you to the many volunteers, survivors who shared your stories, and doctors who made #wavestofightcancer with them. Bad day for cancer. Great day for hope.#swimacrossamerica

Maya Merhige has done it again! The 16-year-old marathon swimmer recently successfully conquered the English Channel (20.5 miles or 33 km), making her one of the youngest swimmers in history to achieve the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming, which includes the English Channel, Catalina Channel and Manhattan 20 Bridges swims. Maya swam the English Channel in just 11 hours and 39 minutes on July 13, 2024. A huge CONGRATULATIONS to Maya from the SAA community. You never fail to amaze us with your dedication and heart
