#Solar is booming around the world. After taking decades to install the first terawatt, it took just two years to install the second. This visualisation shows the world's medium- and large-scale solar installations. The globe has been divided into a 50-kilometre grid and shows the solar farm land area (orange = less, yellow = more) as well as the capacity (the height of the bar). A few things stand out: ➡️ It's clear which parts of Europe have gone big on solar ➡️ In the US, it shows how Texas and California are leading the way ➡️ Everything is dwarfed by the scale of China, with the largest installations in the north and west of the country ➡️ India has seen some significant solar installations and one of the tallest bars corresponds to the 30 GW Khavda Renewable Energy Park which is under construction. ➡️ The Middle East is also picking up with solar farms like Al Dhafra in the UAE. My only gripe with the visualisation is that it shows more of the northern hemisphere so we don't get to see the progress in places like Chile, Australia and Namibia. The way the installations are identified is interesting. Climate-tech startup TransitionZero uses machine learning algorithms to identify them from satellite imagery. The installation of solar has rapidly accelerated in recent years and it will need to continue to do so if solar is to generate a significant chunk of the world's electricity, up from about 7% today. Credit to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for the visualisation.#energy #sustainability #renewables #energytransition - Happy Perovskite New Year from Tandem PV.
- RIP to America's solar president. What we just learned: President Carter started the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Solar Energy Research Institute, which later became National Renewable Energy Laboratory. We like to think he would have championed #perovskite, too.

"There is no longer any question that solar energy is both feasible & also cost-effective...Solar energy will not pollute our air or water...No one can ever embargo the Sun or interrupt its delivery to us. But we must work together to turn our vision and our dream into a solar reality" -President Carter President Carter started the Department of Energy and started the Solar Energy Research Institute (which later became NREL). President Carter put solar panels on the West Wing in 1979 to heat hot water. Today we are reaping the rewards of cheap solar, wind, and batteries because of the investments in energy R&D President Carter made. Rest In Peace. -

Perovskite solar is projected to reach gigawatt-scale manufacturing beginning in 2028, then take over the solar industry just a dozen years later, reports Rethink Technology Research. That could mean tens of thousands of U.S. manufacturing jobs and a boost to long-term domestic energy resilience. But, U.S. perovskite manufacturing will require further federal support to remain competitive and reach its full potential, according to a new analysis from US-MAP, a consortium of industry, academic and national-lab representatives working to advance this disruptive solar tech. Tandem PV is a member. Please read and share the report. #perovskite #domesticsupplychain #energysecurity #cleanenergy

For Perovskite PV in the US to remain competitive in the global PV market we will need further federal support to create a US-based manufacturing ecosystem. Please see the following statement from USMAPhttps://lnkd.in/ganQFiP3
US-MAP Statement on Perovskite PV Ecosystem Needs usa-perovskites.org - In its newsletter today, pv magazine USA reups this three-day webinar, during which Tandem PV CEO Scott Wharton discussed commercialization of domestic #perovskite solar panels. Tune in any time. Says PV Mag: "Despite political uncertainty, one thing is clear: solar will play a critical role in powering the US economy. That was discussed at length in the three-day pv magazine USA Week virtual event."
In the keynote speech on Day Three of pv magazine Week, John Smirnow discussed the Inflation Reduction Act as industrial policy and how the U.S. has the opportunity to be a true leader in solar manufacturing. #BalanceofSystems #battery #Manufacturing
Expanding U.S. solar manufacturing leadership https://pv-magazine-usa.com - A deep dive into "how the hell" China will produce marketable perovskite solar panels headlines the latest podcast from Rethink Energy The pod goes on to cover EV tariffs and German battery storage and (our favorite part) posit whether and when Tandem PV might produce a "categorically" and "very clearly superior" tandem perovskite solar panel. Take a listen and take in our latest panel photo below: https://lnkd.in/gurrw8q
