Team Gleason, established by former NFL player Steve Gleason in 2011, is committed to empowering individuals with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) to lead purposeful lives. Despite facing his own ALS diagnosis, Steve exemplified resilience and determination, founding Team Gleason to enhance the lives of those impacted by this disease. At Team Gleason, our vision extends beyond survival; we aspire to create a world where individuals living with ALS have the resources and opportunities to thrive, fostering productivity, purpose, and meaning in their lives. Through the implementation of cutting-edge technologies, provision of essential equipment, and delivery of crucial care services, we strive to uplift the ALS community, nurturing a sense of dignity and purpose in every individual we serve. Since its inception, Team Gleason has emerged as a leading non-profit provider of equipment and technology for individuals with ALS nationwide. Our mission is clear: to directly support the ALS community by ensuring access to the tools and resources necessary for navigating life with ALS. Our mission is to improve life for people living with ALS and those who care for them by delivering innovative technology and equipment, as well as providing and empowering an improved life experience. On Tuesday, November 12th, Team Gleason's Director of Development, Katherine O'Hagan, was honored to attend The Lou Gehrig Legacy Gala hosted by ALS United Greater New York. During the event, Team Gleason friend and advocate Thomas Morstead was presented the Champion Award for his work surrounding Punt For ALS - a fundraising and awareness initiative surrounding his 16th season with the New York Jets. Thomas has dedicated his season to his friend, Steve Gleason, and the Team Gleason Foundation. The impact of Thomas's work with #PuntForALS to spread awareness and grow resources for Team Gleason and the ALS community is immeasurable. The award is presented to those who have combined their career achievements with a passionate concern for helping people in need. Congratulations to all Champion Award honorees, as well as to Dan Doctoroff Daniel Doctoroff, founder and chairman of Target ALS, who was awarded the Jacob K. Javits Lifetime Achievement Award for his transformative work in ALS research. The Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS at Mass General Hospital awarded the 2024 Gupta Family Endowed Prize for Innovation in ALS Care to Team Gleason Foundation. The prize was presented to the team during the 23rd Annual Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS) Meeting by Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, Director of the Healey & AMG Center for ALS, and the Gupta family. The Gupta Family Endowed Prize for Innovation in ALS Care is a global prize to honor ground-breaking new approaches that lead to exceptional care for individuals living with ALS. “At Team Gleason, we are driven by the belief that people living with ALS deserve more than just hope—they deserve access to innovative tools and technologies that allow them to live meaningful, independent lives,” said Blair Casey, Executive Director, Team Gleason. “This recognition from the Healey & AMG Center and the Gupta Family emphasizes the importance of collaboration and forward-thinking solutions in ALS care. "My father, Nick, was diagnosed with ALS last year. The diagnosis has been devastating to our family. We felt scared and alone and reached out to Team Gleason for help. The power wheelchair they sent for my dad has given him independence and confidence to continue living his best life. He has safely been able to go to hockey games and trips outside the home. Showering became difficult for him, and Team Gleason sent us a new shower chair. Showering is enjoyable again for him. He can breathe easier and is safely seated! Thank you just isn’t enough for the generosity, care, and support of Team Gleason! Families like ours can continue to navigate through this disease knowing you care about us and want our loved ones to be safe! I cried (happy tears) upon hearing I would receive this sweet ride within a week of speaking to a staff person. I recently was fortunate enough to go on vacation to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and having my Jazzy chair aka Electric Legs allowed me to be out and about, independent, participating and enjoying life.
