Building the STEM/STEAM literate workforce of the future! The technology program we offer has been evolving since 2002!
About us
The program of technologies we provide has been evolving since 2002! We have always co-mingled arts and crafts with multi-media, web development, open source based graphic design, office applications, geocaching, and other activities like outdoor skills, leadership and engagement. Our Technology Goddesses Day Camp has been a San Diego Girl Scout Day Camp since 2005; one of the oldest continuously run STEAM programs around. We take preschool and boy children of volunteers as well as campers in grades K-12. Many of our long time campers grow with us through high school, then return as young adult volunteers in college and as their careers launch. n recent years, among other things, we have added: - Spheros, robots that look like pool balls- they are waterproof and among other activities we paint with them - Technology Goddesses Studios – video and social media content provided by a special set of our older aides – our YouTube channel, our Instagram account, and our Twitter account - More coding through code.org, scratch.mit.edu and MIT Android App Inventor for all ages; we plan on adding other variations of coding this year - Discussion of basic electric engineering concepts, such as crafts with copper tape paper circuits, and Snap Circuits - Advanced hardware and software demonstrations, including 3D printing and wearables,

- https://lnkd.in/gfqQKrtH - AI Wombat Friday 7_27_2023 this is a Goddess-created deep fake of Wombat recapping the week of the 19th year of Technology Goddesses™️ camp Our teen technology leaders showed this between amazing displays of spirit and traditional Girl Scout camp songs. I have to admit, this brought me to tears with the power of the message as well as the quality of the integration of the chosen media with AI assistance. Our AI program, now in its third year, includes awareness of the risks to safety; such as cyber threats, bias and misogyny. The data that feeds Gen AI (generative AIs like ChatGPT) comes from the Internet and is not always cleansed to remove bias and unsuitable material. But while we talk about the ethical use of AI, we also share the potential of AI and its entertainment value. We've discussed what makes us human that AI can't easily replicate - like the value of open ended questions to elicit more thoughts and ideas. A lot of what we think AI is just about computers, data and algorithms. Add the speed of computers and the Internet access to a whole lot of data and it sometimes looks like magic. It just looks that way - especially when the computer can do things faster than we can. But that’s not thinking, it just looks that way. Some of the data comes from many sensors within the Internet of Things; some of the algorithms are very complex and have foundations in physics, statistics and many other STEM fields. All of which is making AIs faster and more capable. The roots of both originated with humans, and continue to evolve as technology advances. But depending on what you’re using AI for, it can get scary how personal it gets and how sometimes it looks like the AI is biased towards one thought or another. We are concerned about our personal data being out in the world and what computers can do with it - we are right to be concerned. Computers do what they do because people program them to. Most of us don’t want computers to do anything illegal or unethical. We have been stressing cyber safety since we started the camp in 2005. The more you know about how computers, data, algorithms and other parts of hardware collecting data (like cameras and fitness trackers) can come together to make them look like they’re thinking, the better you can understand what AI is doing to help us and what parts we need to be concerned about. AI has attained an importance and inevitability as never before – it is not only crucial for adults to understand the impact and potential but our children as well. as they grow up surrounded by applications of AI. We would rather have our Goddesses grow up with the knowledge to protect themselves, while they create the world of tomorrow, than live with the fear driven by a lack of understanding.
