- scambling (noun); a really annoying scam we've noticed. As one of our Cyber Security Experts, Darren's here to break it down
- 🤔 What if a shark chews a subsea cable? Do they get uploaded? 🧠 These are (adjacent to) questions that our marine team consider ⛈️ Repairs to these underwater cables come with challenges of their own, like navigating rocky seabeds or harsh weather windows 📍 Working with field teams and marine partners, Telstra's marine team began extensive planning after discovering a shunt fault just offshore from Perth 🏖️ A four-day operation saw the damaged section be re‑laid onto a sandy seabed to reduce the risk of future abrasion 🌐 Looking after these cables is no easy feat and requires collaboration and technical expertise many teams, but it's all worth it to keep Australia connected!
- We arrived to upgrade a tower, but nature had other plans 🪺 👷♂️ Back in April, our technicians in Far North Queensland discovered an Osprey nest in a tower in Mission Beach. To avoid disturbing the birds, the team made the decision to pause the upgrade. 🪺 When they returned a couple of weeks later, the Ospreys had settled in fully, with three eggs in the nest! 🐣 Working closely with the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, we’ve now delayed the upgrade until at least mid-July to give the chicks the time and space they need to hatch and grow safely. Flexibility comes in handy when you've got a family to look after!
- The most technical game of I spy you’ll ever play 👷 📡 In this case, B’Jae is working through a power input failure on a radio. During inspections, he identified a loose power connector, which is enough to trigger a fault alarm from the equipment. 🚨 That alarm is the system’s way of flagging that something in the power feed isn’t quite right, so the team know to head out to that site ASAP to get things fixed. 💪 B’Jae’s job here is to secure the connector back into place, restoring a stable power connection so the radio can operate as intended and the network continues running smoothly.
- This is someone's normal workday 😱
- Some people work in the cloud, others work above them ☁️
- Not everyone knows about this one 👀
- Just casually fielding questions 30 metres up a tower 😱 👷♂️ Safety comes first for Constructor Repairer B’Jae. With at least one of his carabiners always connected to the tower, every move is deliberate. 😰 The level of calm and control is hard to fully appreciate until you see just how high up he really is. 💪 Just another day’s work for our Field Services team!
- Would you swap your morning commute for B’Jae’s? 👇 👷♂️ As a Constructor Repairer, B’Jae spends his days scaling mobile towers and keeping critical infrastructure running strong. 😌 What stands out most though is the calm, focus and ability to hold a full conversation like he's not 30+ metres above the ground!
- Talk about an office with a view! 😎 👷♂️ B'Jae gave us this tour of his surroundings while performing maintenance on a mobile tower in Mount Stradbroke, just outside of Brisbane. 😱 Seriously impressive how our riggers stay this calm, metres above the ground.
