The Master of Real Estate Program (MRE) at Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School gives students the fundamental knowledge of commercial real estate to immediately add value in the marketplace. The program’s concentration on finance, real estate law, economics, market analysis, and negotiations allows the student to explore the industry as they develop their skills and contacts.

- On April 19th, the Master of Real Estate program was privileged to tour the Lakewalk development in Bryan, Texas, thanks to the kindness of Justin Shulse and the dedicated team at William Cole. During our visit, we had the opportunity to tour the Stella hotel, gaining insights into the intricacies of real estate development. Additionally, we participated in a panel discussion and received a detailed tour of site plans. It was an honor to witness firsthand the meticulous craftsmanship and planning that define William Cole's projects. We want to express our gratitude to Justin Shulse, Spencer Clements, Joey Dunn, Deven Doyen, and Allison Kay for their hospitality and commitment to our program last Friday. Your generosity in sharing your expertise has left a mark on our program, and receiving this hands-on learning experience was a true privilege.
- On April 12th, the Master of Real Estate program had the privilege of hosting Guggenheim Partners at our speaker series. We would like to give a special thanks to Travis Schwaer and Carter Neill for attending and enlightening our students on the dynamics of business within Guggenheim Retail Real Estate Partners. The students were able to learn about the process of sourcing and development of properties within Guggenheim’s selective identification process. Both speakers bestowed tremendous insights and advice to students for their careers and knowledge. Thank you again to Travis and Carter for joining us this past week and taking time off from their busy schedules.

On April 5th, the Master of Real Estate program had the privilege of hosting Lynn Carr, Principal of Mesa West Capital, as our guest speaker. We extend sincere gratitude to Mr. Carr for sharing his insights with us. He provided a comprehensive overview of the CRE lending market and then elaborated on Mesa West Capital's role as a debt fund within the industry. Mr. Carr's discussion on how debt funds generate profit and the associated pros and cons of being a debt fund was incredibly enlightening. Mr. Carr also sits on the MRE advisory board, and we extend our sincere appreciation of his generosity, dedication, and commitment to enriching the Master of Real Estate program. - On March 21st, The Master of Real Estate program had the pleasure of hosting PGIM Real Estate for our weekly speaker series. We would like to thank Campbell Schultz and Josh Horner, Investment Analysts in PGIM’s Dallas Office, for sharing more about their careers in loan originations and debt placement as well as offering insight into current trends occurring across various asset classes and within capital markets. Mr. Schultz and Mr. Horner walked us through multiple case studies to simulate the types of deals they are seeing in today’s market and how the higher interest rate environment has affected property values and ability for borrowers to refinance loans on their properties. Our students are immensely grateful to have hosted Mr. Shultz and Mr. Horner, and we appreciate them taking the time out of there busy schedules to come and speak to our program. It was a privilege to learn more about PGIM Real Estate and the exciting work they are doing in commercial real estate finance!
- The Master of Real Estate Program was delighted to host Hillwood as part of our weekly Speaker Series on March 1st. We would like to present a special thank you to Fred Balda, President of Hillwood Communities, for sharing his incredibly distinguished experience and insight on Mixed-use Development within the Commercial Real Estate Industry. Along with his guidance on utilizing innovation to skillfully craft value and deliver long-term results, Mr. Balda shed light on the intricacies of the development process, from site selection to resident occupancy, and illustrated how each community is thoughtfully and intentionally designed to enrich the lives of the locality. Our students are immensely grateful to have had the privilege to learn directly from the Perot Company that is known for more than 100 master-planned lifestyle communities across the state of Texas and extend our tremendous appreciation to Mr. Balda for his valuable time, esteemed wisdom, and dedicated support.
- During our speaker series this past week, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting Partners. Adam Hawkins and Zane Carman engaged our students in a deep dive into their multi-faceted business model and provided our students will some fascinating case studies. Partners is one of the largest privately held and independently owned commercial real estate firms in the country. They spoke about the wide range of services provided such as brokerage, project management, valuation, and investments. We learned about the benefits and synergies that being a full-service firm can greatly benefit the company over time. They presented us with four different case studies all covering different asset classes and nuances within the deals. We are extremely grateful to Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Carman for speaking to our program. It was an honor to hear from Partners and we are truly thankful for their support and generosity.

On February 16th, the Master of Real estate Program hosted members of the JLLHouston office as part of the program’s weekly speaker series. We would like to thank Simmi Jaggi, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Land Advisory Services, Mark Raines, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Retail Advisory Services, and two of their newest associates Katie Madden and Lucas de la Garza for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit with our students.Our students had the opportunity to hear more about the various avenues within commercial real estate that these professionals at JLL specialize in with their careers. Simmi and Mark shed light on the asset types that they deal with as brokers and some specific case studies that they have dealt with in the past. The opportunity to hear from our presenters about the journeys they had to the position they currently hold, and advice they’ve learned through trial and error were invaluable and treasured by our students. We would also like to thank Katie and Lucas for sharing their experiences about transitioning from students to young professionals, as they were in the same shoes as our current students just months ago! Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Simmi, Mark, Katie, and Lucas for making the trip from Houston to College Station to visit with our students. Your effort, advice, and knowledge are greatly appreciated, and we hope to see y’all again soon! - On February 2nd , the Master of Real Estate program hosted Big Sky Asset Management as a part of our weekly speaker series. We want to thank Jason Signor, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Big Sky, for coming to share his knowledge and giving the students some insight into fund management. His experience in healthcare investments is evident and the lessons of valuing relationships in the ever-changing industry left a lasting impression on each of us. The knowledge you provided about different intricacies, such as hedges and fixed vs. floating-rates, gave students a deeper understanding of funds and how we can analyze them in the future. We extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Signor for his generosity, dedication, and time to the Master of Real Estate program. His presentation was invaluable, and we are privileged to have had the opportunity to learn from him. We are eager to have him come back to College Station soon!
