I have ADHD. Having a job that supports my strengths, as well as my needs, has been incredible! I’m a program manager for the Welfare and Self-Reliance Services Department of the Church. In my role, I have the privilege of developing and managing the self-reliance programs in the Deseret Industries stores, Humanitarian Center, and Deseret Manufacturing facilities. We serve all of God’s children who are looking for a vocational boost, who want to learn their superpowers, identify and overcome weaknesses, and overcome barriers that are holding them back. Supporting our friends as they overcome generational poverty, drug addiction, homelessness, incarceration, health challenges, employment gaps, and other vocational barriers to launch into successful careers with other businesses is incredible! These courageous individuals break cycles that impact generations. What a privilege it is to serve them. I also love working for an organization where love, integrity, and continuous improvement are at the forefront. “Despite growing up in Utah, I had no idea of all the different types of paid employment opportunities that the Church offers! “I had a prompting to look at the Church career site after listening to a Church employee speak in sacrament meeting. “I expected I’d find a bunch of jobs in IT or office manager positions if I was lucky. To my surprise, I found a position posted that same day for a Regional Manager overseeing the Distribution Stores. “I was even more surprised when I read the job description and felt like it was written by someone who knew me and my work experience. It felt too perfect to be a mere coincidence, and I knew I needed to apply. “Fast-forward ten years, and I’ve loved my career working for the Church and coming to know so many wonderful individuals from all over the world. It’s rewarding to come to work every day knowing that what I’m doing is blessing others. “In my current role as Director of Deseret Industries in the Welfare and Self-Reliance Services Department, I play a role in helping my brothers and sisters improve employability through work training and skill building. “As a fun side note, through work and personal travels, I’ve visited a total of 65 temples throughout the world so far! “One thing I’ve come to realize is how involved the Lord is in the lives of His children. He is very aware of us, our circumstances, and our ability to influence the lives of those around us. “That’s been true of my career with the Church and, looking back, with other organizations as well. Thousands of little breadcrumb moments have led me to where I am today, and I’m grateful for the journey and for the incredible people I’ve met along the way. “As Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf said, ‘When we step back and take an eternal perspective, when we look at our lives in the frame of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we can begin to see how the various dots in our lives interconnect. “‘We may not be able to see the entire picture just yet, but with patience we can see enough to trust that there is a beautiful, grand design.
