The Blue Spirt Award is the highest honor bestowed by the President of Boys & Girls Clubs of America in each region to a local club professional. This Award recognizes leaders who exemplify the ‘Blue Culture’ in action – a highly respected and trusted leader who tirelessly goes above and beyond to make a difference and drive youth impact. The Blue Spirit Award is personally selected by the BGCA President. Mike, we are all so grateful for your passion, enthusiasm, leadership, and dedication. This is well deserved. Please join us in congratulating him.
- Did you know Nevada has programs and funding to help your child get the strong start you want to give them? It takes just five minutes to open a world of opportunity for your child’s first five years. Boys & Girls Club President and CEO Mike Wurm talked with KOLO-TV 8 News Now ABC about the importance of access to early childcare services for Nevadans and resources available through @first5nevada https://lnkd.in/ghecdp6p
First 5 Nevada kolotv.com - Big thanks to American Highway for their support of Boys & Girls Club and the Fernley community! We appreciate all you do!
Our Fernley, NV team recently held a back-to-school drive, benefitting the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. Backpacks were also provided to all plant employees' children. Making sure these kids are prepared to go back to school is just one small way for us to say, "thank you." - Free BGCTM membership and two months of free childcare is the cherry on top, but the real treat is a stronger, loving family dynamic. Join our next 10-week Strengthening Families Program starting in September for bonding and stronger connections. Email Naomi Valenzuela Nvalenzuela@bgctm.org for more information or to reserve your spot!
- AT&T and Human-I-T provided youth from the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Donald L. Carano Youth & Teen Facility in Reno, Nevada, with 150 refurbished laptops and backpacks stuffed with school supplies last week to distribute to program youth in need. This distribution is part of a broader AT&T employee effort to help bridge the digital divide and equip 20,000 students across the country with laptops and backpacks as they head back to school. In addition to supplies like notebooks, pencils and headphones, the backpacks included cards of encouragement written by AT&T employees. “The impact of contributions, such as this from AT&T and Human-I-T for laptops and backpacks, goes beyond anything we can measure,” said Mike Wurm, President/CEO, Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. “The confidence this gives our youth participants goes will go way beyond today. We thank AT&T for leading the way in helping to support our program participants so that they can succeed.” In Nevada, it’s estimated that 9% of households don’t have access to the internet or connected devices needed to fully participate in the online world, an issue known as the digital divide. “AT&T is proud to collaborate with organizations like Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to help close the digital equity gap in Reno,” said Mark Blakeman, President, AT&T California and Nevada. “Connectivity is vital for students, and we’re glad we can provide these resources to those that need them most.” This effort is part of the AT&T Connected Learning® initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.
