As we come to the end of National Rehabilitation Month, we want to share a wonderful story about one of our patients at TriStar Summit Medical Center. Ted recently suffered a stroke and received his initial care at Summit's inpatient rehabilitation unit. After his discharge, Ted was transferred to outpatient therapy. During his evaluation for occupational therapy, he stated that one of his goals was to be able to climb the stairs to his loft where his has his own printing machines, one of his hobbies he enjoys during retirement. After a little over a month of occupational therapy, Ted showed significant improvement. He was able to return to his daily activities, including climbing his stairs independently. As he celebrated meeting his goals, he also celebrated our outpatient therapy team, who he calls his 'Summit Sisters." He created and printed a thank you t-shirt for the entire team. We are so proud of his progress! #CareLifeFamily #RehabMonth
We celebrated the end of summer and start of fall with an Ice Cream Social for our colleagues today! We even had special appearances by a miniature horse, Paint, and a tiny donkey, Lilly. The hospital's senior leadership team hosted the party to thank TriStar Summit Medical Center colleagues for their dedication and hard work in September. #CareLikeFamily #PoweroftheTeam

This week's Summit Spotlight is Stephanie, RN, is a Clinical Nurse Coordinator at the TriStar Mt. Juliet ER. Stephanie has worked at TriStar Health for four years. She says her connect to purpose is based on how we treat others. "I have always felt like I could connect with people quickly and easily and allow people to feel like they have a person who truly sees them in their time of need. I treat patients like family because I would want my family treated the same. To me, being a nurse isn't all about having technical skills; it's really more about how we make people feel." When Stephanie isn't working, she loves vacationing on a lake in a boat, her favorite food is crab legs, and loves country music. If she could have lunch with anyone, she says, the father of her two oldest girls who passed away a few years ago. What does Stephanie love about Summit? "I love Summit because of the people who make up Summit and the memories I have here with co-workers, past and present. I feel like Summit offers a safe place for this community. The BEE (Being Exceptional Everyday) Award recognizes those colleagues whose work to enhance our patients’ experience. We presented the TriStar Summit Medical Center BEE Award to Rachel (holding flowers), a polysomnography technician in our Sleep Lab this week! We received numerous nominations from patients who appreciate Rachel's commitment and dedication to our mission, Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. One patient said, "“Rachel is super caring, thoughtful, and thorough. She explained the procedure very well and made sure my daughter was comfortable. Her bedside manner and patient care is one of the best I have encountered. It is apparent she cares a lot about her patients and doing her job well. Thank you for easing my daughter’s anxiety about the study.” Congratulations Rachel, well done! #BEEAward #WeShowUp
We celebrated Patient Care Tech Anna (holding certificate) from the hospital's Rehabilitation Floor with the Sunflower Award today. The Sunflower Award is presented to an outstanding Patient Care Tech for their patient-centered commitment and dedication to their field. One of Anna's patients nominated her for the award, saying, “Oh, to just be able to bottle some of this girls’ energy and share it! She stays busy taking excellent care of her patients and families. She does so in an unhurried, caring fashion. I observed her helping train new techs – lucky employees to have her mentoring them!” Well done Anna! #SunflowerAward #WeShowUp
Congratulations to the TriStar Summit Surgery Center Lebanon team for completing their 100th surgical case this week! The TriStar Summit Surgery Center Lebanon opened in late June to meet the growing healthcare needs of Wilson County. This week's Summit Spotlight is Amanda, manager of Wound Care at TriStar Summit Medical Center. Amanda has worked at TriStar Health for 12 years and says her connect to purpose is based on her faith and family experiences. "We see patients at their worst, often their darkest days. I want to be the light that Jesus intended us to be and remind them they are loved and cared for. One of my family members was once in an ICU. I saw great care, good care and okay care during the scariest time. From this experience, I have made it my mission to help all my patients feel that they are in good hands." When she's not working, she loves vacationing at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, her favorite food is tacos and margaritas, and loves most music. If she could have lunch with anyone, she says, nursing pioneers Florence Nightingale and Anna Maxwell. What does Amanda love about Summit? "I love feeling like I am wanted here. Happy Monday, a great day to celebrate one of our Clinical Nurse Coordinators (CNC), Anita Broyles. She delivers high quality, patient-centered care and coordinates all functions in the Nursery unit. Anita has worked at TriStar Summit Medical Center for 34 years! "I learned early on newborns are my passion." We congratulate Anita on her new children's book, "Feeling Colors," asking children, "Can we smell, taste, or feel colors? Let's imagine it in a fun way!"
