Nov 21 PitchBook Tech Talks: A Deep Dive into Deep Tech Ali Javaheri (Emerging Technology analyst) and I are excited to co-host an upcoming webinar on the deep tech space. We'll be joined by 3 seasoned VC investors: - Mike Collett (Founder and Managing Partner, Promus Ventures) - Sunil Nagaraj (General Partner, Ubiquity Ventures) - Bilal Zuberi (General Partner, Lux Capital) Deep tech involves substantial scientific and engineering, broadening its scope to encompass #AI, #computing, #robotics, #energy, and #aerospace. This wide range of technology complicates understandings of "Deep Tech" as a sector in itself. In addition, the highly technical nature of deep tech sometimes potentially leads to misunderstandings or overlooked opportunities. 3 things you'll NEVER hear at a seed-stage startup: The way startups vs big businesses operate is TOTALLY different -- and this is extra clear when you listen to what's said in the hallways of (1) larger companies (500 to 50,000+ employees) vs. (2) seed-stage startups of just 5-10 people. In my just-released UBQT blog post, I go into 3 things you'll NEVER hear at a seed-stage startup (https://lnkd.in/gHdaxxCx): 1) “My Boss’s Boss Said…” 2) “We Just Did a Re-org” 3) “This Market Isn’t Worth Our Time” Read my full blog post here: https://lnkd.in/gHdaxxCxOn point #3 - "This Market Isn't Worth Our Time" - I think this one is especially important. At big companies, it’s common to hear, “This market isn’t big enough for us to pursue,” especially if it doesn’t represent billions of dollars in potential revenue. Startups, on the other hand, thrive on exploring tiny, emerging markets that larger companies often overlook. For a startup, the excitement doesn’t emerge from reading a Gartner report or some industry analyses. Instead an entrepreneur comes to life when they see a customer’s eyes light up as they realize how your product could solve their problem. While large corporations may look to teams of analysts and researchers to identify market opportunities, startups rely on customer conversations and real-world feedback. What big companies dismiss as too small or risky, startups see as untapped potential.#startups #startupculture #seed - Ubiquity Ventures reposted this

🎉 Today marked an exciting milestone for Loft! We hosted customers, partners, investors, local stakeholders and our team to celebrate the official opening of our Integration & Test Center in beautiful Golden, Colorado. Our I&T Center is a dedicated satellite fulfillment center, where Loft delivers satellites at scale to the space industry. 🛰 Our 13,000 square foot facility features ISO-8 cleanrooms and space for inventory, assembly and rework, satellite storage, satellite production, environmental testing, and research and development. Once the satellites leave this building, they’re on their way to space. This is an important part of how we make space simple. If you missed the event, check out our walk-through of the facility featuring our Head of Operations, Geoff Rabinowitz and I&T team! -

🎉 Congratulations to Loft Orbital on the official opening of their Satellite Integration & Test Center in Golden, Colorado!! Their 13,000 square foot facility includes a clean room, inventory and a lot more -- all to accelerate Loft's goal of making space simple for more customers. Another "software beyond the screen" idea brought to life! It was great to be there in-person for the ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Mayor of Golden, Colorado holding some very large scissors (!) and then facility tours and a big party! Fun times with Loft CEO Pierre-Damien Vaujour, Loft COO Alex Greenberg and fellow board members Steve Vassallo of Foundation Capital and Jeff Clavier of Uncork Capital. This week's event is on the heels of some very exciting news just a month ago: a $100 million Loft Orbital JV with the UAE - more in Techcrunch: https://lnkd.in/g6_iagn8 Ubiquity Ventures #newspace #satellite #spacetech- +5

NO 😡 - all DeepTech companies don't take longer to build, require more capital, or have more risk as a general rule. Ubiquity-backed Koop is a fantastic example of what's possible! In today's just-released UBQT blog post, I'm happy to feature Koop founder/CEO Sergey Litvinenko as he explains how he and his co-founders iterated rapidly to find strong product-market fit with DeepTech companies by offering them a comprehensive compliance, insurance, and security platform. They already count many of the top DeepTech robotics, autonomous vehicle and other companies as happy customers. Read more now at https://lnkd.in/gU2N35B4Glad to work with co-investors AlleyCorp | Deep Tech (Abe Murray and Brannon Jones) and Bee Partners (Alejandra Vergara), Sure Ventures (Gopi Rangan), Fusion Fund (Lu Zhang), and Garrett Goldberg on bringing Koop's vision to life led Koop's first financing round in late 2021 and is proud to have Koop founders Sergey Litvinenko, Zak G., Jim Duan, and Kamron Khodjaev in the Ubiquity family #insuretech #assurance #compliance #autonomousvehicles #robotics #autonomy

While these streets are real, the signs are not. What you are seeing is the output of a Parallel Domain simulation. These scenes utilize PD Replica (real-world scans) with added street signs from our asset library. This powerful combination of real-world scans, with our powerful simulation platform empowers developers to get as close as they can to testing and training in the real world! Where reality meets scalability: We’ve intentionally packed this scene with dense sign placements to showcase how scalable the platform is to programmatically add signs and other variations into a scenario. It’s a game-changer for machine learning teams, allowing them to test and train perception models across a wide range of scenarios at scale — without ever leaving the (virtual) road.#syntheticdata #machinelearning #perceptionmodels #autonomousdriving #simulation #signs #scalability #innovation #pdreplica #replica - Ubiquity Ventures reposted this

One of the BIGGEST challenges in startups is getting everyone on the same page with the same priorities. I've found that OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) are an incredibly powerful tool, so I'm extra excited about this announcement: In our newest Ubiquity University, Curated CEO/Co-founder Peter Ombres breaks down OKRs for early-stage startups: https://lnkd.in/ghHxuMxP📍 What are OKRs ("Objectives and Key Results") 📍 How they can help startups ensure that everyone in the company is focusing on the same important issues (from management down to the individual level) 📍 How exactly this is different from just selling goals 📍 Why 90% of the work is spelling out the language of the OKRs and building consensus -- the process is a big part of the value 📍 How even seed-stage startups can benefit from putting in place OKRs And a big CONGRATS to Peter Ombres as he steps into the CEO role at Curated after serving as COO since day 1 at the company! Read our summary and watch the Ubiquity Ventures University video now at https://lnkd.in/ghHxuMxP (including some graphics from Measure What Matters | OKR Resources)
