About us

Our mission is to help low-income residents stay in their homes and strengthen their communities, through representation, support, and ownership. United Community Housing Coalition is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing housing assistance to Detroit’s low-income residents. Since 1973, we have worked to keep people in their homes and secure affordable housing for those in need. We believe that having a place to live is a basic human right, and are passionate about preserving this right in our communities. Our services are provided to income-eligible families and individuals free of charge.

This past weekend was incredible! Mayor Duggan enjoyed being the Honorary Captain for the University of Michigan football game this past Saturday! Sonia and I had a fabulous time with the players, GO BLUE 〽️!!!

In our just released special Centennial edition annual report, Kresge Board Chair Cecilia Muñoz writes about our progress toward equity and the challenges that remain: "I firmly believe that our progress as a nation, and the foundation’s role in advancing that progress, is well worth celebrating. We should take inspiration from the fact that Americans have engaged our young democracy in a way that has allowed us to make progress toward becoming a more perfect union and that a good number of the institutions that have contributed to that progress have benefitted from our grantmaking." "And yet, every one of the things our nation struggled with a century ago — from economic inequality to fully realizing the rights of African Americans, women and so many others in our society — still challenge us today. While we rightfully take inspiration from what we have achieved, a centennial is also an opportunity to take a clear-eyed look at the work ahead," Muñoz writes. Joe Louis Greenway (JLG) is a 30-mile regional greenway connecting 23 Detroit neighborhoods to three cities: Dearborn, Hamtramck, Highland Park. The historic neighborhood signage that is a part of this project cost $45,000 and was completely paid for by a grant from the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan Michigan's Ralph C. Yesterday we were proud to join our partners CENTRAL DETROIT CHRISTIAN CDC, 360 DETROIT, and the City of Detroit at the groundbreaking for construction on the “West Euclid Gateway,” a new multifamily affordable housing project that exemplifies our commitment to strengthening communities and providing safe, affordable homes for Detroiters. This project was made possible through the Detroit Housing for the Future (DHFF) in partnership with LISC Detroit. Alongside LISC and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), the Gilbert Family Foundation is proud to support this innovative affordable housing project. Together, we aim to make a lasting impact on the housing landscape in our city. A special thank you to Darnell Adams, Vice President of Detroit Community Initiatives, for your unwavering support and leadership in driving this project forward.
