Yesterday, we held the first of our flu vaccine kick-off days in Hospital Conference Room 1020, and over 1,800 UI Health staff and volunteers have already done their part to keep patients safe this cold and flu season. UI Health employees – Do you still need to get your shot? No problem! We’ll be back today in Room 1020 until 5 pm today. No appointment is required — just walk in!

After a healthcare resource in Chicago’s Gage Park closed just before the pandemic, UI Health sprang into action. 👩🔬➡️🦸 Since opening, the UI Health 55th & Pulaski Health Collaborative has served over 30,000 patients by helping them manage chronic conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes, and through education, cooking classes, support groups, and other resources. It’s a prime state tour stop for spotlighting healthcare and community partnerships for greater health and well-being. The UI Health at 55th and Pulaski Health Collaborative is a joint effort of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, UIC College of Applied Health Sciences, and the UI Health Mile Square Health Center, bringing together UIC’s health sciences colleges and local providers for health screenings and specialty services, as well as behavioral and mental health care.

University of Illinois Cancer Center leaders, staff, Community Advisory Board (CAB) members and community partners have published a collaborative study describing how the Cancer Center developed scalable approaches to determining scientific priorities that are rooted in health equity in concert with communities. The study, published in the journal Preventive Oncology and Epidemiology, also shares examples of how Cancer Center Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) data guided the identification of community-endorsed scientific priorities and how the Cancer Center incentivizes community-engaged research that is responsive to community needs.Yamilé Molina, PhD, Cancer Center Associate Director for Community Outreach and Engagement, is the first author and Margaret Wright, PhD, Cancer Center Senior Research Scientist and Co-Director of the Data Integration Shared Resource (DISR), is the senior and corresponding author. Congratulations to our Inpatient Pediatric/PICU team, who “Achieved the Standard” for the Experience of Children and their Parents on The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey.
