About us

Urban Initiatives is a nonprofit organization that empowers Chicago’s youth to become agents of community change through academic success, healthy living, and leadership development. We drive systemic change by connecting stakeholders and strengthening the social fabric of the community through sport and the power of play. We serve 15,000 Chicago Public Schools students at 50 schools throughout the city. By actively engaging participants in our extracurricular activities at a young age, Urban Initiatives empowers youth to live a healthy lifestyle, value education, and enhance their personal and social development. Urban Initiatives takes a collaborative, whole child approach to development in order to provide children with the opportunity to reach their full potential.

I want to celebrate that I am at an inclusive organization. Trust was nurtured here for me to be able to feel comfortable speaking up to move from a full time role to a part time one that is more suited to my needs while still supporting the success of the organization. I am celebrating that my worth is not just measured by how productive I am, but also by how I show up to take care of my mental health, body, and needs. I am celebrating that when I chose me for the first time in a long time, that I have a manager who supports my mental and physical health. I am celebrating that I work at an organization that is able to be flexible and whose needs have so far positively matched my own growth and needs. I am grateful and so excited to kick butt in my part time role and really put my focus on just a couple of things rather than many to make sure these couple of things' processes are as efficient and and smooth as possible. Because let's face it, when it comes to data entry and compliance, I'm kinda a beast.
