- Exciting news: we’ve raised a $100M Series C, led by Greenoaks, and with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, and other existing investors. We’re full speed ahead on our mission to accelerate the climate economy. We now work with companies that manage an estimated 479 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent––more than the annual emissions of France. We’re proud to support them on their work to reinvent their businesses for a zero-carbon world. Read more about what we have in store for our next chapter >> https://lnkd.in/eDZXzCwS

🇦🇺 While Climate Week has understandably captured much of our attention, there was a big sustainability reporting milestone this month in Australia. Both politically and technically, the groundwork has been laid for mandatory climate disclosures, starting next year. Watershed's guide to the new Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) covers the details, but here are three key takeaways: 🚀 A game-changer for Australia’s net zero journey Over 6,000 companies will be required to disclose their climate-related data and risks. Many forward-thinking Australian businesses are already doing this, but these new standards will ensure consistency and comparability across the board. This benefits everyone — including companies already leading the way — by raising the bar on transparency and accountability. 🌏 A strong move towards global alignment The rules are one of the first to be based on the ISSB framework, rather than the TCFD’s older, lighter framework. That’s a big shot in the arm for the ISSB, strengthening its role as the new global baseline for sustainability reporting. It's good to see Australia aligning so tightly after initial plans to deviate in some key areas. 🙌 Regulatory clarity and pragmatism What might fly under the radar, but deserves attention, is the Australian regulator's (ASIC) roadmap for enforcing these rules. With detailed timelines, a pragmatic enforcement plan, and a focus on guidance and surveillance, companies can concentrate on improving data quality to drive better decision-making. It’s similar to the successful approach taken by the UK’s FCA.#sustainability https://lnkd.in/eTrSsAdY
Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) watershed.com - This week, the Watershed Community gathered, stepping away from the hustle of #ClimateWeekNYC. It’s not every day that we get to bring a group of passionate sustainability professionals around a dinner table to share wins, tackle challenges, and collaborate on ideas for a more sustainable future. A huge thank you to our Head of Community, Vera DeVera for organizing this special event, and for everyone who joined us and helped make the night so meaningful—full of connection, inspiration, and collaboration.

My big takeaway from #ClimateWeekNYC: community is the heart of every climate solution. This week was a celebration of a diverse, extended climate community: activists, innovators, students, investors, scientists, artists, farmers. For many of us, "community" extends to all the lifeforms our planet sustains, and that sustain us. 🦈 🍄 🌲 🦉 🐛 🐝 Highlights: 🌱 Climate power-women Colette Pichon Battle, Jade Begay, and Ayana Elizabeth Johnson shared how their devotion to sustainability is rooted in community and place. "The only way we're going to make it through this next phase of our planet is together," Colette says in Ayana's new book, What If We Get It Right? (read it; it's amazing). 🌍 The indomitable Christiana Figueres—to whom we owe much of our current progress on climate change—shared how her outrage fuels her determination, with a reminder that "Carbon is not local." 🐧 Dr. Sangwon Suh, who's been working in climate for close to 3 decades, spoke about emperor penguins waiting for the sun after a long winter. We have the science, technology, regulation, and even economic incentives we need to change climate change. Now is the time—"my fellow emperor penguins!"—to come together and get it done. 💪 I got to spend time with Watershed customers who are doing the real work: helping their companies operate more sustainably, often against the odds. Working in climate can be lonely, scary, and overwhelming (also: exciting, challenging, rewarding). But when you're reminded of how many people are working alongside you to solve the same problem—that's the magic. 💚 Grateful to my extended climate community, and especially to the team of fabulous folks I get to work with every day: Amelia Penniman Vera DeVera Courtney Correll Chaves Kate Custus Meghan Keaney Anderson Bob W. Mallory Pickett Bob W. Rob Goodman Stephanie Suriyakam Rory Tokunaga (she/her) Chelsea Kaufman Julie Munro David Addison Tu-Anh Ha Christie Beeman. I'm so glad to be on this planet with you. 💚 - Big news! We are incredibly proud that three of Watershed's own have been selected to contribute to the working groups updating the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol): Ann Radil, Matt Konieczny and Sangwon Suh. We're honored to have your expertise at Watershed, and grateful to the GHG Protocol for putting your collective experience to such important use.
GHG Protocol is pleased to announce the members of the four Technical Working Groups that will support the process to revise and update the suite of corporate standards. The Technical Working Groups play a core role in developing the technical content of GHG Protocol standards and guidance. Each of the four Technical Working Groups focuses on a specific topic: Corporate Standard, Scope 2, Scope 3 and Actions and Market Instruments (previously referred to as Market-Based Accounting Approaches). ➡️ Read the full announcement: https://bit.ly/4gF1nzF - Thank you to all who joined us for our Watershed Climate Week Summit at #ClimateWeekNYC yesterday! A special shoutout to our remarkable speakers Christiana Figueres, Lisa Jackson, Salah Said, Nadja Koerner, Sangwon Suh, Taylor Francis, Christian Anderson—and, of course, to all of our attendees for making this event a huge success. We left feeling energized by the insightful discussions and insights that reminded us progress is not only possible—it’s actively happening. As Christiana said, "We are absolutely behind schedule. And at the same time, who would have thought, nine years ago, that we would be investing almost two times as much into renewables as we are into fossil fuels." ICYMI, we also launched our CEDA 2024 update, which brings refreshed data for 60,000 emissions factors from 400 industries across 148 countries and regions. "Have we ever solved hard environmental problems in history? The answer is a clear yes: time and time again humanity has managed to clean up the mess we created.” - Sangwon Suh, PhD, head of science for Watershed, reminding a packed room at Watershed's #ClimateWeekNYC event that we have solved big problems before. And we can do it again. - Watershed reposted this

I am so proud of my amazing CEDA team for their dedication and professionalism that led to the 2024 CEDA update! Over the last 1.5 years, our team worked together tirelessly to build a cutting-edge infrastructure and the capacity under which CEDA stays up-to-date while ensuring the highest quality possible. I believe that this update is the crystallization of best data and science available today. From now on, we will provide annual update of CEDA, so that all the progresses we are making to decarbonize the economy are duly reflected in the scope 3 measurements in a timely manner. Big thanks to my fearless CEDA team, Mo Li, Ph.D. Andrew Dumit, Dan Frank Michael Steffen Yohanna Maldonado Jake Feintzeig. We will continue to march forward. Warm thanks to Watershed for bringing me together with dear friend Lisa Jackson leading Apple’s 55% emission reduction, while the company saw 65% growth. That is decoupling ! - We were lucky to be joined by Christiana Figueres at today's Watershed Climate Week Summit. Few have shaped the climate movement like Christiana—as our co-founder, Taylor Francis pointed out, "We all do our work in an environment that Christiana Figueres helped create." During their conversation, Christiana emphasized the critical race we’re in, explaining: "The curve of climate change is going up exponentially but so is the curve of solutions. We have two curves competing against each other. Which is going to win and where are they going to intersect? The work we have ahead of us is to improve the possibility—the probability—that [the solutions curve] is the curve that will win." It’s a race we can’t afford to lose. Let’s make sure the solutions win. #ClimateWeekNYC
