- When newcomers arrive in the United States through safe and legal pathways, one of the initial challenges they face is often connectivity. Welcome.US’s committed partners at T-Mobile and Google offer newcomers hope and peace of mind by ensuring that they can access essential technology that keeps them connected with their loved ones, their new community, and the world around them. By the end of 2024, Welcome.US and its partners will have distributed 50,000 phones with free year-long service plans from Metro by T-Mobile to resettlement agencies and community organizations that support newcomers nationwide. The power of connectivity through these mobile distributions has enabled communication and provided comfort to families facing crisis. Three days after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Lesia and her family fled their hometown of Kyiv. As the war continued, they realized they would not be able to return to the normalcy of the life that they had left behind. They crossed the western border of Ukraine and struggled to live in Poland for two years. Lesia, who was then pregnant, knew they needed to make a change. This is when she discovered Welcome Connect and met Angie. Angie embodies the spirit of welcoming. After her son went to college, Angie was eager to open her home and heart to help others. In May 2024, Lesia, then nine months pregnant, along with her husband Dmytro and their other two children, arrived safely in their new community in Indiana. When the newcomer family arrived in the U.S., they also received rideshare credits through a partnership between Welcome.US and Lyft. The credits provided reliable transportation, which is necessary as the family settles in their new community. Read their story→ https://lnkd.in/ecf9WUG7 - This Veterans Day, we honor veterans and thank them for their service at home and abroad. Their dedication to their country continues in their communities as they work to welcome newcomers and allies to the U.S. who are searching for safety. “Welcoming is an inherently American value,” said Mariah Smith, veteran and board member for No One Left Behind. “We still have the ability to keep our promise and help people restart their lives in the U.S.” Thank you, veterans, for leading this movement of welcoming, by providing hope and refuge to newcomers and our allies!

Americans in every corner of the country—in more than 12,000 zip codes and all 50 states from every background and faith, veterans, and diaspora communities—are strengthening their communities through acts of welcome every day. America is a nation of Welcomers.

- The implications of this election are still unfolding, leaving many of us uncertain about the future of welcoming newcomers. Many of us are searching for ways to bring healing to our country and our communities, and reconnect with our core American values. One thing is clear: across the country, Americans continue to open their hearts and show up for their friends, neighbors, and newcomers in need. These everyday acts of welcome emphasize who we are and what we have in common as Americans. As we look ahead, it’s more important than ever to protect and preserve the welcoming community we’ve built together. Please join our informational webinar on Friday, Nov. 15 at noon EST with Welcome.US CEO Nazanin Ash and co-founder Cecilia Muñoz, former Director of the Domestic Policy Council of the United States to learn about what to expect and how you can continue to make an impact. - Inspired by the Good Samaritan story from the Bible and his background as a Civil Rights and Vietnam War activist in the 1960s, Bill first sponsored a Ukrainian family in 2022. The positive experience led him to sponsor another family, this time from Nicaragua. The political and economic situation, coupled with extreme weather, made life “very difficult” in Nicaragua for Ervin and his family. He discovered Welcome Connect, where he met Bill. The two bonded over their backgrounds as mathematicians, and soon, Bill offered sponsorship to the family of four. Since their arrival in the U.S., the newcomer family has been living with Bill in his home. “William has been an angel for us,” Ervin said. “We feel blessed.” Read the full story of how this former math teacher’s faith led him to sponsor a family seeking safety: https://lnkd.in/eYQpDDiK
