Wendy’s: Serving up the best hamburger around, made with fresh, never frozen beef, since 1969.
About us
Wendy's was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio. Dave built his business on the premise, “Quality Is Our Recipe®”, which remains the guidepost of the Wendy's system. Wendy's is best known for its made-to-order square hamburgers, using fresh, never frozen beef*, freshly-prepared salads, and other signature items like chili, baked potatoes and the Frosty® dessert. The Wendy's Company (Nasdaq: WEN) is committed to doing the right thing and making a positive difference in the lives of others. This is most visible through the Company's support of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption® and its signature Wendy's Wonderful Kids® program, which seeks to find a loving, forever home for every child in the North American foster care system. Today, Wendy's and its franchisees employ hundreds of thousands of people across more than 7,000 restaurants worldwide with a vision of becoming the world's most thriving and beloved restaurant brand. - This week, we celebrated Founder’s Week – an annual tradition that pays homage to our founder, Dave Thomas, and the birth of our iconic brand. Dave opened the first Wendy’s restaurant 55 years ago today on November 15, 1969, and we continue to honor his legacy and the values he instilled that define us – Give Something Back, Treat People with Respect, Do the Right Thing, Profit Means Growth and Quality Is Our Recipe. Today, in recognition, we gathered our global Restaurant Support team members, both in person and virtually, for a wrap up celebration complete with special anniversary cookies and lapel pins (a Wendy’s staple!). Following the meeting, we took our annual “Dress Like Dave” photo at our headquarters in Dublin, OH and members of the Restaurant Services, Training and Culinary teams served up our new Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger and Salted Caramel Frosty to ~400 employees on site. Here’s to 55 years of serving our famous, fresh food with many more years to come!
- Wendy’s Frosty turns 55 on Friday, November 15 and there is no better way to celebrate our iconic treat’s milestone than with the new fall-inspired Salted Caramel Frosty, now available at restaurants nationwide. Blending warm notes of rich, salty caramel with the smooth Vanilla Frosty, this limited-time flavor is a spoonful of fall in every bite! Read more about the history of the Frosty and seasonal offerings on The Square Deal.
Wendy’s New Frosty Menu Features Fall-Inspired Salted Caramel wendys.com - Wendy’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), open to all Company Restaurant Support employees, heighten opportunities to celebrate diverse backgrounds, empower employees to bring their authentic selves to work and offer leadership and professional development opportunities. Recently, members of the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, & Africa (APMEA) chapter of our Women of Wendy’s Employee Resource Group (WOW), led by Co-Chairs Sinem Sayar Teoman and Paula Romero Aznar, took part in the MENA Women Leadership Summit. They had the chance to learn from and connect with women shaping the future of leadership in the Middle East and engage in meaningful conversations on gender equality, economic diversification, and societal progress in the region. This is just one example of the many ways our ERGs support the personal and professional growth of our team members around the globe!
- Congrats grads! We recently celebrated the graduation of our fourth cohort from WeLEAD: a leadership program that emphasizes Wendy’s “people first” approach to business so that participants graduate ready to make a difference. During the last five months, WeLEAD participants completed a set of in-person and virtual learning experiences, including in-restaurant training and a 360 feedback exercise, and presented a final group project that focused on what they learned during the program and how they’ll apply it to their role with the brand. And throughout the program, they also received coaching and support from a dedicated group of Wendy’s leaders who served as program sponsors. We can’t wait to see what this group will accomplish next!
- This week, Wendy’s Veterans Employee Resource Group (WeVets) proudly celebrated the U.S. military community’s service and sacrifice. From honoring customers and crew members at our restaurants to hosting a celebratory breakfast with the USO at our Restaurant Support Center, we shared our gratitude in many ways. We also partnered with Honor Flight Columbus, where WeVets Member Nathan Huffman and Executive Sponsor Adam Holland served as guardians alongside veterans on a meaningful journey to Washington, D.C., for a day of honor and reflection on the National Mall. Today and always, we salute our veterans for their unwavering commitment to protecting our freedom and values.
- In recognition of Founder’s Week, Chief Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Officer Liliana Esposito hosted a conversation at our headquarters in Dublin, OH with franchisee and founding daughter, Wendy Thomas. Wendy shared stories about her history with the brand, memories of her father, Dave Thomas, and thoughts on the future of Wendy’s. She even brought THE original dress she wore at the very first restaurant opening nearly 55 years ago. From creating the modern-day pick-up window to establishing the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, our brand and the communities we serve continue to benefit from the legacy he left behind.

Every November, the Wendy’s family comes together to celebrate our founder, Dave Thomas and renew our commitment to the Brand values. Dave was a man of few words, but when he spoke – people listened. He lived by a set of values that incorporated quality, integrity, respect, opportunity and responsibility. These same values have been the foundation of our Wendy’s culture for nearly 55 years. This week is Founder’s Week at Wendy’s and to kick things off, President & CEO Kirk Tanner recently shared what the values mean to him and why it’s so important to come together each year to reflect and celebrate our combined successes. Watch the video below. - We’re thrilled to share that Wendy’s Information Security team has been recognized as one of the world’s Top 50 by ONCON! This honor highlights the dedication, innovation, and leadership of the team in safeguarding the security of our customers, employees and brand across the globe. The recognition is a testament to the hard work of the team who constantly drive excellence and champion security across our System. Well done CISO Adam Holland, Ilija Vadjon, CISSP, CISA, PCI ISA and CIO Matt Spessard.
