The U.S. Military Academy Equal Opportunity Office proudly hosted the annual Black History Month Observance at the West Point Club. This year's theme, "African Americans and the Arts," illuminated the room with captivating performances from the Cadet Gospel Choir with their uplifting rendition of "The Best is Yet to Come," from Capt. Aniya Knotts singing, "Lift Every Voice and Sing," and several smooth tunes from the Cadet Jazz Club. The highlight of the luncheon was the keynote address by Archie Elam, a distinguished 1976 USMA graduate. His Army career spanned diverse assignments at the U.S. Armyโs Armor School, West Point Admissions, U.S. Army Europe, and the U.S. 18th Airborne Corps. After graduate studies, he worked in advanced mathematics and systems analysis, transitioning to roles in the Office of the Secretary of the Army and later the U.S. Army General Staff at the Pentagon. Following his Pentagon tenure, Elam served with the 18th Airborne Corps and the 24th Infantry Division Mechanized, leading 36,000 troops in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as the head of current operations. His journey, intertwined with his father's legacy of service spanning World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, offered profound insights into the intersection of identity, duty, and belonging. ๐บ๐ธ Elam's narrative serves as a beacon of inspiration, reminding us of the resilience and fortitude that define the African American experience. As we celebrate Black History Month, let us honor the past, illuminate the present, and inspire the future.#BlackHistoryMonth #BeAllYouCanBe #DutyHonorCountryWest Point Admissions | West Point Association of Graduates | US Army | Shane Reeves | Do More Together- +4

This effort made West Point the first engineering school in the U.S., producing top engineers in each graduating class. ๐๏ธThroughout the 19th century, West Point graduates spearheaded monumental projects, including the construction of waterways, infrastructure, and even the iconic Washington Monument. ๐Today, despite years of revisions and modernization to the curriculum, every cadet, regardless of their major, graduates with a foundation in engineering from one of West Point's diverse engineering disciplines. ๐บ๐ธJoin us in celebrating National Engineers Week as we recognize West Point's lasting impact on the world of engineering #EngineeringExcellence #westpoint #BeAllYouCanBe US Army | Shane Reeves | US Army Corps of Engineers | National Society of Professional Engineers- +4
