- This week, The White House gathered over 100 leaders (and many more virtually) at the ¡Adelante! Summit to accelerate our nation's HIV response in Hispanic/Latino communities. Whitman-Walker’s Senior Director of Community Health, Juan Carlos Loubriel, was a proud participant. The Summit honored those whose lives were cut short in the early years of HIV and AIDS and discussed carrying their memory forward through their legacy of hard work, hope, and ganas, as they look toward a future where the HIV epidemic in Latino communities is met with urgency and visibility. Their vision is to ensure health, equity, and opportunity for all members of our communities. All vowed to continue to advance the Biden-Harris Administration’s National HIV/AIDS Strategy, through support of one or more of the pillars: prevent new infections, improve health outcomes for people with HIV, reduce health disparities, and create more coordinated efforts across governments, communities, and sectors.#AdelanteHIVSummit #HispanicHeritageMonth #HIV #whitmanwalker #weseeyou @hivgov, @whitehouse @lacasablanca
- Today, Whitman-Walker celebrates the one-year anniversary for the Max Robinson Center in our new location on the St. Elizabeths East campus in the Congress Heights neighborhood of SE Washington, DC. Today marks the first anniversary of our ribbon-cutting, a day that will forever be remembered as a significant step in expanding our mission to serve the Congress Heights community and beyond. This building was envisioned as more than just a space for health care and research—it is a testament to our deep commitment to providing compassionate, accessible services. The overwhelming support of the community, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, and our partners in the District government and beyond have truly been instrumental in making this vision a reality. Over the past year, we have witnessed moments of healing, advocacy, and community building within these walls. This year has been full of firsts. We’ve hosted impactful community events, provided vital healthcare services, and continue to make tremendous waves in the research and public policy space. It has also been a year for reflection, to acknowledge our growth throughout the past 50+ years and our resilience through loss and hardship. On behalf of our entire Whitman-Walker staff and community, we want to thank everyone who has helped to make this such a spectacular year! #weseeyou #whitmanwalker #whitmanwalkerinstitute #whitmanwalkerhealth #RootedInCommunity

- #LGBTQ+ individuals, like all people, deserve comprehensive, accessible, high-quality health care delivered by practitioners and providers they can trust. Accurate and trustworthy #SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identify) data—along with other demographic data such as race, ethnicity and primary language—is the cornerstone of efforts to innovate and improve care delivery, identify and overcome barriers to equity, train service providers, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and participate in research that improves both population health and individual patient outcomes. This brief - co-written by Whitman-Walker Institute's Executive Director Kellan E. Baker and its Director of Policy Caroline Medina, along with Whitman-Walker Health's Vice President of Access & Strategic Initiatives, Erin Loubier, in cooperation with NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance) - discusses long-standing protections for patient or member data, including SOGI data, provided by HIPAA and a 2024 final rule from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services clarifying health care and health insurance nondiscrimination protections. #whitmanwalker #whitmanwalkerinstitute #NCQA https://lnkd.in/eespVRrj
