It was a great evening at the Central Park Zoo yesterday, as our team, with partners Ronald McDonald House New York and New York City Public Schools, hosted our 2nd Dream Night. It's an inclusive and educational cost-free evening for children with special healthcare needs and disabilities. The guests had the zoo to themselves along with keeper chats, animals encounters, and more. #education -

We officially completed our 2024 aerial survey in the Greater Ruaha Katavi Landscape in #Tanzania. For four weeks, the WCS Tanzania team and our partners flew across the vast landscape using three aircrafts, collecting and documenting data and information on wildlife numbers and the animals' distribution in this landscape. We have been carrying out aerial surveys every three years here. This is the third of those aerial surveys. It's important for us to see the status of animals in the area, for more targeted #conservation approaches, as a measure of the impact of our work, and for informing decision makers. We look forward to sharing the findings of this survey once they're released by our partner the Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute. - "An undercurrent of joy." Sir David Attenborough responds to his visit to Cambridge where he discussed the transformational work of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI). Sir David spoke with experts from across the CCI partnership about the ground-breaking results that are being achieved through innovative, collaborative projects. At WCS, we are proud to be among the CCI partners. https://bit.ly/4dnWojZ

- All ape species are listed as Vulnerable, Endangered or Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Infectious diseases represent a major threat to their survival, says a new book from Arcus Foundation and Cambridge University Press & Assessment. State of the Apes, Volume V, focuses on health and features several WCS co-authors. It includes the urgent need to adopt a #OneHealth approach. “Ape populations no longer reside in remote strongholds, away from human interaction,” says a chapter co-authored by WCS’s Christian Walzer. “As ape health declines, the need to intervene at the individual, population, and ecosystem levels thus becomes more acute.” Read it online: https://lnkd.in/eqCM_eWF
- "HIFOR represents a shift away from a world in which our global economies are free riders on the essential services that nature provides—including for climate regulation and biodiversity conservation—toward a world in which bearing the costs of maintaining that essential natural infrastructure is part of the economic mainstream,” said WCS's Daniel Zarin at last night's brand launch event. - "HIFOR is a critical new finance tool for scaling investment in the world's most intact, biodiverse tropical forests and the stewards of these areas," said WCS's Ashley Camhi, Ph.D. at the #ClimateWeekNYC HIFOR branch launch event. Learn more: hifor.org
