- #TakeActionTuesday: Title IX has paved the way for gender equity, but students with disabilities still face barriers to equal participation in sports and physical education. Gaps among students with disabilities often go overlooked, with boys consistently participating in sports at higher rates than girls. Inclusive policies are essential to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities and promote their full participation in physical activities. Adaptive sports play a key role in this effort, offering life-changing opportunities for physical and social development. According to several federal laws, including IDEA, Section 504, and the ADA, schools must provide equal opportunities for students with disabilities in all athletic programs from PE class to varsity sports. This includes reasonable accommodations for integration into mainstream programs and the creation of adaptive sports programs where needed. While progress has been made, the path to true equity requires ongoing commitment to creating a system where every student can fulfill their full potential. #TheEquityProjectYour Turn: 1. To learn more about Title IX and its impact on students with disabilities, check out our report ‘50 Years of Title IX: We’re Not Done Yet,’ to explore how far we have come and steps we can take to further progress. 2. Follow and support organizations like Move United and Special Olympics that champion adaptive sports and inclusion. 3. Research the policies and accommodations offered at your local schools to ensure students with disabilities have equal opportunities to participate in athletics.

- #TakeActionTuesday: Coaches inspire, lead, and transform the world of sports and today, we’re highlighting a few of the women who are breaking barriers and creating opportunities for others to follow. 🏐 Katie Schumacher-Cawley: The first woman to win an NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship as head coach, Katie led Penn State to victory while battling cancer. 🏀 Niele Ivey: Head coach of Notre Dame Women’s Basketball, Coach Ivey recently made history as the fastest coach to reach 100 wins in ACC history. 🏒 Jessica Campbell: A trailblazer in hockey, Campbell is the first woman to hold a full-time coaching position in the NHL, paving the way for women in professional hockey. These remarkable women exemplify the power of leadership in sports, breaking barriers and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
