Paul Schneider, cofounder and head brewer of Cinderlands Beer in Pittsburgh, explains how they came to test Yakima Chief Hops’ new HyperBoost, and he offers a brief overview of how it fits in with other advanced hop products. Sponsored by Yakima Chief Hops, this video course is free to brewers everywhere: https://lnkd.in/geuq4iMx #sponsored - In 2023, Yakima Chief Hops launched Next Generation Program, a Board of Directors Development Program for the next generation of growers to serve on our company's Board. YCH’s Board of Directors is made up of 11 individuals, with seven directors elected from Yakima Chief Hops’ base of grower-owners, with an additional four independent directors from outside of the company. As we welcome the transition of leadership on the farms to the next generation within our network of multi-generation family farms, we strive to provide learning opportunities and hands-on experience for these upcoming leaders to govern our company in the years ahead. The first cohort of the Next Generation Board Program includes: - Erik Sauve, 4th generation grower from SAUVE & SON FARMS, INC.- Erica Lorentz, 4th generation grower from Lakeside Ranches - Austin Gasseling, 5th generation grower from Gasseling Ranches. - Jessica Riel, 4th generation grower from Double 'R' Hop Ranches, Inc.- Ben St. Mary, 4th generation grower from Black Star Ranch - Colton Carpenter, 6th generation grower from Carpenter Ranches - Patrick Smith, 4th generation grower from Loftus Ranches- Brandon Davidson, 4th generation grower from BC Hop Ranch The Next Generation Board Development Program is an example of how Yakima Chief Hops, as a 100% grower-owned hop supplier, is committed to creating systems of sustainability for family farms and for our company to thrive for future generations. In honor of Veterans Day today, we raise a pint in gratitude to our nation's Veterans for their service and sacrifice. In 2017, military Veterans within our own organization proposed the idea of a community hop blend that would support non-profit organizations helping Veterans and their families. A portion of the sales from each pound of the Veterans Blend is donated to a different charitable organization each year, and since its inception Yakima Chief Hops has donated $175,802 in support of critical needs for Veterans. This year, we partnered with Stop Soldier Suicide, the only national non-profit organization dedicated solely to reducing the number of U.S. Veterans and service members who die by suicide each year. Breweries from around the country have brewed with the 7th Annual Veterans Blend and are releasing their tribute beers to honor the men and women in our armed forces. The hops used in their beer, selected by Veterans in the beer industry, are helping provide critical resources to Veterans by supporting Stop Soldier Suicide and their work focused on care and research that is specific to reducing Veteran and service member suicide. Thank you to the breweries who are making an impact with their Veterans Blend beer. Thank you to Stop Soldier Suicide for their relentless work to solve the issue of suicide among U.S. Veterans and service members. Thank you to each and every Veteran who answered the call and served on behalf of our freedom. Your service and sacrifice are not forgotten. - As we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Month, Yakima Chief Hops reflects on the deep connection between the land we cultivate and the Indigenous cultures that have stewarded it for generations. YCH is dedicated to learning from and with Indigenous communities. For generations, our community has been enriched by cultural exchanges with the Yakama Nation, whose reservation spans 1.2 million acres. For thousands of years, Indigenous practices have utilized sustainable and regenerative farming practices, and these timeless traditions are woven into the fabric of our modern-day sustainability efforts. As an agricultural organization, the connection to the land we harvest is profound. Nearly 25% of YCH’s total harvest – over 17,000 acres – is grown on tribal land! We’ve formalized a promise to partner with the Yakama Nation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, focusing on corporate social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and economic development. Together, we’re working to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for our shared community. With a significant portion of our hops grown on tribal land, we must acknowledge and honor Indigenous roots. While our hops have a global reach, we're committed to educating others about their origins and sharing wisdom and experiences that have deepened our understanding of the land and its history. We are excited to kick off a collaborative process with Urban Native Era, a Native-owned clothing brand dedicated to highlighting Indigenous culture through fashion, founded by Joey Montoya (Lipan Apache). We will be collaborating on creative projects that highlight the cultural significance of our hops and the Indigenous communities they support. By working together, we can create meaningful and impactful initiatives that celebrate our shared history and inspire others to learn more about the land and its people. - Dominic Wise, Yakima Chief Hops Sensory Technician, recently completed the Applied Sensory and Science certificate through U.C. Davis. It was a yearlong online program with four different courses. "This course gave so many different real-world examples that were hyper-focused for sensory professionals," Wise says. "The program was tailored for sensory professionals, by sensory professionals who were basically the ones who put sensory science on the map for companies and corporations to utilize and prioritize as a tool for quality and innovation. It was pretty cool to take this certification knowing that it is world-renowned as THE best sensory science certification that you can get." Thanks to this program being online, Wise was able to further his professional development while still working full-time and was able to complete the final course which ended in the middle of harvest, one of the busiest times of year for our sensory team members. The team at Yakima Chief Hops is incredibly proud of Dominic on this achievement! Congratulations on earning this esteemed certification and continuing to pursue opportunities for further professional development. Dominic is an excellent team member at Yakima Chief Hops and a shining example to us all. Well done!

A Guide to Brewing with Advanced Hop Products! 🔎 With so many hop innovations available today, choosing the right one can be a game-changer! From Cryo Hops® to flowable oils such as HyperBoost™ and DynaBoost™, modern brewers have more tools than ever to create their perfect brew. Whether you're looking to boost efficiency, craft bold flavors, or simplify your process, there's a hop solution for every goal. Check out our latest blog to learn how to choose the right product for your recipe. Link: https://lnkd.in/gPq_YXqw - Hop Harvest would not be possible without the work and effort of local and foreign farmworkers! While the magic of harvest is undeniable, an important aspect often goes unnoticed: the tireless work of migrant farm workers. These individuals, who often work in a physically demanding capacity, are the backbone of North American agriculture, and their contributions to hop production ensure that global demand is met. Yakima Chief Hops (YCH) owes its success to the dedicated hop growers who invest in their land and products, as well as the invaluable contributions of migrant farm workers. These workers are an essential function of the supply chain and the foundation of the hop harvest. Their efforts, both during and before harvest, are crucial to producing high-quality hops. As American hops from the Pacific Northwest are used worldwide, it’s important to recognize that they come from the hearts and hands of laborers beyond our borders. Hop farming is a labor-intensive process that no machine can replicate. From twining and training the hops to stitching and stacking the bales, farmworkers make it possible to deliver hops from our fields to your pints. ¡Salud a todos los trabajadores migrantes que son esenciales para la producción de lúpulo! - Harvest & Hop Selection 2024 🌱 The bales are in the barn and we are now able to take a breath and look back on what has been accomplished! It was another successful Hop Harvest and Selection season. We welcomed brewers from all around the world to rub, sniff and select their hops for the upcoming year, and threw a couple pretty fun events while doing so. From Lanes & Lagers, Dark Harvest™, Dank Dive™ and everything in between, we had an absolutely terrific time making memories with our brewing partners and feel very fortunate to get to share a little slice of Hop Country with you all each year. Our network of multi-generation farms marked another hop harvest in the family legacy, and for that, we are so incredibly grateful. ❤ Let's take a moment to recognize all the work and effort from farmworkers, growers, truck drivers, production and warehouse teams, sensory panelists, who make hop harvest and selection happen. 👏 And of course, thank you to our fantastic brewing partners who made the sacred pilgrimage out to Yakima for this special time of year. You all make it matter with your craft! 🌱🤝🚜🍻 Same time, same place next year!
