- Al Puchala America is not producing the requisite products and services to support our military facing myriad existential threats throughout the world. Addressing this crisis and inviting the private sector to action at scale, the Department of Defense just issued its “………..National Defense Industrial Strategy Implementation Plan (NDIS-IP), detailing how the DoD will achieve the four strategic priorities laid out in the NDIS…….. the document outlines ongoing and future actions that DoD is taking, to modernize the defense industrial base. The NDIS-IP describes six cross-cutting initiatives and associated lines of effort, which will enable the DoD to achieve a more resilient defense industrial ecosystem and buy-down risks. In addition to detailing the work being done across the Services and DoD components, the NDIS-IP demonstrates activities and initiatives that the U.S. Government, private industry, and international allies and partners are undertaking, emphasizing that this effort cannot be a DoD-only initiative. "Publishing the NDIS was a significant accomplishment as we work to strengthen the size and resilience of our industrial base," Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment William LaPlante said, "………"This implementation plan offers industry, global allies, and partners clear direction on the Department's priorities for industrial capacity building." said Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy, Dr. Laura Taylor-Kale. "Implementing these initiatives will require coordinated efforts across the DoD, and support and cooperation from our interagency, industry, and international stakeholders, as well as our champions in Congress." https://lnkd.in/euHQ96vd
- Thomas Baker The Marine Corps has long been known for its relentless pursuit of cutting-edge warfighting capabilities, challenging the boundaries of today’s warfare. Our legacy is built on fearlessness, innovation, and a willingness to challenge norms. From Howlin' Mad Smith's daring strategies to our embrace of maneuver warfare doctrine, we have defied convention and earned our place as history's most adaptable warriors. I am increasingly concerned that some leadership may hinder innovation and fail to acknowledge the realities and threats that logisticians will face in supporting tactical operations within the First Island Chain (FIC). While the Marine Corps is tasked with training, manning, and equipping our warfighters, and although the training and manning are in place, the logistics equipment has not been fielded to the necessary level. Each day, China’s ‘stones’ on Wai Qi draw nearer. We are losing valuable time that could be spent building the capacity and capabilities needed to support our Marines in the Pacific. Small and medium watercraft are essential, and the associated training is critical. We do not have time to waste. China’s maritime militia plays a significant role in these activities. Moreover, its ostensibly civilian fishing fleets, which are closely tied to Chinese government agencies, have come under increasing international scrutiny. Vessels from both groups contribute to China’s efforts to reshape the rules of freedom of navigation, bolster its maritime claims, and secure vital resources. Imagine we’ve moved from competition to conflict, and hundreds of armed fishing vessels flood the FIC, continuously disrupting our resupply efforts. How can we expect Marines to support Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations (EABO) and deliver the required logistics when it matters most? The time is now and we must support the Marines and the logistics community.
