💡 Global Cooperation for a Climate-Resilient Future: Highlights from BCG’s Flagship Event 💡 This week, I had the honor of participating in “A Call to Collective Action: Delivering Value with International Co-operation", the flagship BCG event during New York Climate Week at the UN Headquarters. The focus was on accelerating climate action through global collaboration and private sector mobilization. Key discussions centered on how public-private partnerships can play a pivotal role in building systemic climate resilience. I had the honor to talk with Sean Kidney, CEO of the Climate Bonds Initiative (CBI), about their work in mobilizing the debt capital markets to drive both mitigation and adaptation investments. 🔑 Takeaways from the session: Global economic risks: If we stay on our current trajectory, climate change could result in a 20% loss of cumulative global GDP by 2100. However, coordinated, global action in line with the Paris Agreement could save more than 10% of GDP over the same period. The power of collaboration: Companies need to engage not only their suppliers and customers but also governments and industry groups to prioritize impactful initiatives. This was echoed in our discussion on the Climate Resilience Taxonomy, developed by CBI, to help guide investments into climate-resilient activities. Unlocking capital for adaptation: While over $5 trillion has been mobilized in green finance, less than 20% has gone to adaptation. CBI’s work aims to bridge this gap, offering clear criteria for climate-resilient infrastructure, and helping private and public stakeholders alike identify critical investments. 🌱 It’s clear that public-private collaboration is key to accelerating climate action. Together, we can not only reduce the cost of climate inaction but also build resilient systems that benefit the environment, businesses, and communities. Interested in more?
