For the past week in Louisville, Kentucky, the National Student Nurses' Association Board of Directors, Staff, and I have been preparing to host our 42nd annual NSNA Midyear Conference! It concluded yesterday and was a success! I am so lucky to have a board that thinks critically, takes on new perspectives, and works to promote positive change for our students. I got to see this in action during our meetings, and I am so honored to witness their leadership in action. In addition, to have a staff that so successfully and passionately supports our organizational mission by empowering our members makes every bit of difference. During the conference, along with my board, I attended the Council of State Presidents Meeting, held a presidential leadership forum on “the transitional jouRNey: learning to lead into licensure,” welcomed students and our fantastic speaker Dr. Michael Bleich, visited exhibitors, and attended numerous focus sessions. I am so grateful to all of the leaders that submitted and participated in the “words of wisdom” section of my forum including Jennifer Mensik Kennedy PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN , Patrick Robinson, PhD, RN, ACRN, CNE, ANEF, FAAN, Dean Carol Musil, Cheryl Schmidt , and Brandi Borden. Additionally, I had the opportunity to meet with so many gifted speakers and nursing leaders including Crystal Bennett Schiano, DNP, MBA, MSN, RN and Nancy Jo Thompson, DNP, MSN, RN-BC both of whom give me so much hope for my future in nursing by expanding beyond the traditional definition of what it means to be a nurse leader. This also marks my sixth month and halfway point in my presidential term. It has been six of the most exciting and rewarding months of my life and I plan to savor every last bit of it! I hope to see you all and some new faces at the NSNA Annual Convention in Seattle, WA this April!
