I’m incredibly honored to share that I, along with my former excellent team at Scripps News, just won the national Emmy Award for Outstanding Investigative News Coverage. In this video from NYC of the moment it was announced, Kate O'Brian (president of the network) gives a nod to our team, the impact startup news organizations can have, and also graciously mentioned my new post leading the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism, Arizona State University at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

The nominees and outstanding investigative news coverage short form are. The Coast Guard secret. CNN investigates CNN. Dishonored CBS. NBC News investigates hospital giant putting profits over patients. NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, NBC. Scripps News. Visual evidence shows Israel dropped 2000 LB bombs where it ordered Gaza civilians to move for safety. The New York Times. And the Emmy goes to poisoned water scripts means. Accepting the Emmy. Carrie Cochran, producer. Nearly a decade after the Flint water crisis, efforts to remove dangerous pipes have slowed to a crawl, and thousands of residents may still need their water pipes inspected like idea. How does that feel? It feels like you have. No power, no support, It feels like you don't matter. Feels like the world just keeps going on. And you keep going on. But like, yeah, like you don't matter like. Everyone here is not important enough. First of all, I'd like to thank traffic for not being in this category. But we'd also like to thank the Academy, the judges, the screeners, the people who voted for us. In this remarkable, remarkable result, I'm here. I'm Kate O'Brien. I'm the president of News scripts. I'm here on behalf of Mark Greenblatt, the correspondent who did this story. He is now heading the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism. ASU. Carrie Cochran, Unbelievable producer Colin McIntyre. Where is Colin? There he is over there. Max McClellan, who was our head of investigations, Linda Pattillo, who's also in charge of investigations, Rosie Seema, Amy fan, Steve Turnham. On behalf of them, we accept this award. This team did remarkable work. This story is a story that as a journalist, I have been involved in covering for 10 years. I mean, more than that. And we really wanted to go back and see what happened. And we did. And we got results. And there were things that changed because of our reporting. And if you haven't seen it. Google it. There's a remarkable interview with the mayor who did not know what had to answer the questions. Just as important as these people are is the amazing group of Scripts News Journalists. Script News is a tiny startup, 2 years old, fewer than 300 journalists doing 16 hours of live news and original programming every day. I just wanna take a moment to honor their hard work and their dedication. The entire Scripts News team works so hard every day and we are deeply proud of everything they do. I also wanna dedicate this award to all the startup news organizations that are out there. We are all up against incredible odds. Financial odds, cultural odds, political odds. And that everybody comes to work every day to do the kind of work we do makes me incredibly proud. Thank you for the recognition.

Mark, what an excellent capstone to all your years on the front lines of investigative journalism! It's great to see your new role in guiding the next generation of students into a critical profession in the battle for a just and equitable society. Glad we had the chance to work together!

Bravo Mark! What an honor and so well deserved.

Mark, this is huge and not a surprise. Congratulations!

Congrats! This is such great news!

Tremendous! Congrats Mark and team.

Congrats Mark! I am so happy for you and Regina. Miss you both, ☺️

Way to go Mark. So happy for you, especially as I reflect on your great work at KHOU. Also, it's a small world as Linda Pattillo and I worked together many moons ago in Richmond, VA, and we remain good friends today. Kate's acceptance speech was amazing. Yes, I know her, too. Proud of you all.
