What if I forgot my username or password? (original) (raw)
You can retrieve a forgotten username or reset a forgotten password at the Lost Information page.
The username and password email system is entirely automated, so LiveJournal staff and volunteers can't reset your password, change your email address, or delete your account for you. It is important to keep a current email address on your account so you can always get these emails. You may also wish to set up a secret question.
I forgot my username.
Go to the Lost Information page, choose the "Lost your username?" option and enter the email address currently associated with your LiveJournal account.
If you do not have access to the email address you most recently used with your account, you will not be able to retrieve your username. However, you might be able to use LiveJournal's search options to find your account.
If you can't determine your username using any of the above methods, you will have to create a new account if you wish to continue using LiveJournal.

Step-by-step Guide
Go to the Lost Information page.
Choose the "Lost your username?" option and press "Proceed" button.
Enter the email address linked to your account in the "Enter your e-mail address:" field.
Press "Proceed".
An invisible reCAPTCHA check will be performed. If you won't pass an invisible check, you'd be offered to select images with specified objects. This is to prove that you are no robot.
Check your email inbox for the letter from LiveJournal with your username.
Go to http://www.livejournal.com/login.bml, enter your username and associated password, and press "Log in".
I want to reset my password via email.
If you have access to the email address that was most recently registered with the account, or for a previously validated email address that was used with your LiveJournal account in the past six months:
At the Lost Information page, choose the "Lost your password?" option, enter your username, and optionally the email address to which you want the password reset email sent.
LiveJournal will send a Lost Password email to the email address you entered, if that email address is currently associated with your account. If you didn't specify an email address, LiveJournal will send the email to the currently registered address.
Check your email account for a Lost Password email and follow the instructions to reset your password.

I don't have access to an authorized email address.
You can only request a password reset email for the most recently registered and validated email address with your LiveJournal account, or for a previously validated email address that was used with your LiveJournal account in the past six months.
If you don't have access to an authorized email address, you may be able to restore access to your account by answering a secret question. This method is only available if you set up a secret question before you lost your password.
There is no way for LiveJournal to restore your control over an account if you cannot reset your password using the above methods. In this case, you will have to create a new account if you wish to continue using LiveJournal.

Step-by-step Guide
Go to the Lost Information page.
Choose the "Lost your password?" option and press "Proceed" button.
Enter your username in the "Enter your username:" field.
Try using previously validated email address: unmark the "send to current e-mail" checkbox, and enter the email in the "Enter your e-mail address:" field.
Press "Proceed".
An invisible reCAPTCHA check will be performed. If you won't pass an invisible check, you'd be offered to select images with specified objects. This is to prove that you are no robot.
If you had set a secret question, you'll see a message offering you to come back later to use this option to reset your password.
Check your email inbox for instructions on how to change your password. Follow those instructions.
If you do not have access to the verified email address and you had not set a secret question then you will need to create a new account here: https://www.livejournal.com/create.bml.
I don't remember which email address I used.
If you do not remember which email address you used with the account, try one of the following methods:
In the "Lost your password?" section on the Lost Information page, enter your username and leave the "send to current e-mail" option enabled. LiveJournal will send the Lost Password email to your most recently registered address. Check all of your email accounts for the email.
In the "Lost your password?" section, enter your username, disable the "send to current e-mail" option and enter an email address you might have used. If it is the most recently registered address, you will receive a "success" message and LiveJournal will send the Lost Password email to that address. Otherwise, you will receive an error message. Repeat this process with your other possible email addresses.
In the "Lost your username?" section, enter your email address. You will receive a success message if that address is currently registered with any LiveJournal account.
If you can't determine which address you used, you may be able to restore access to your account by answering a secret question. This method is only available if you set up a secret question before you lost your password.
I have the right information, but the email from LiveJournal isn't arriving.
If you didn't enter an email address on the Lost Information page, the email may have been sent to an email address you didn't check. Try checking other email addresses, or see above for information on determining which email address you used on LiveJournal.
If you know which email address you used on LiveJournal but you are receiving the error message "You never used that email address with this account or it was never validated.", you might have entered the wrong username. See the "I forgot my username" section above for information on how to check your account's username.
If you have received a "success" message for a particular email address and the email doesn't arrive at that address, investigate why you aren't receiving emails from LiveJournal. Request the Lost Password/Username email after your account can receive email from LiveJournal again.
