I am really sad to see them go, but am also happy because Kumiko hasn't seen her dad's half of the family in over a year. I was going to go, but I still need to get ready for school and I am going to use their absence as an excuse to get some things done around here (i.e. getting rid of old toys, organizing, etc). They're only gone until Thursday, but I'm going to miss them terribly anyway. Life is too short for me to be as stressed out as I have been trying to juggle family, friends, career, and school. So, we simply eliminated a factor to even things up. Now don't get me wrong--I will probably end up working some sort of part-time job so I don't get super bored, but nothing like what I've been doing. Although I adore telecom, it's just too much with school. It's wonderful, but a little part of me is sad, too. Next thing you know, she'll be going to school. Hell, we've already got her signed up for swimming lessons this summer and are talking about dance classes in the fall. (Note to self: reading the above makes me sound like some weirdo soccer mom platinum-blondish Desperate Housewives wanna-be!) Anyway, this year we opted to keep it low-key instead of going crazy like we normally do. So, we hung out at home, had a cake, and gave her some gifts (including a 4x6 foot Barbie princess castle--I'm going to kill you John!). Hope you had fun and didn't drink too much (and that if you did there was a dd to get you home). I spent the night bowling--yes, I said bowling--with John, Jason, Joy, and Danny. It was actually a blast. There was loud music, lots of drunk redneck and ghetto folk to observe and lound/annoying party favors. I was kinda sad though because John had to leave early--he wasn't feeling well. But, being the sweet guy my hubby is, he insisted I stay. Anyway, a good time was had by all. I have never gotten so dressed up for such a waste of time! The DJ sucked, *I* though the food was sub-optimal (although others seemed to disagree), and some people should have been ashamed about what they wore there. The only good thing is that a colleague from PA came down and was buying my co-workers and me lemon drop shots. Not being a big drinker, it goes without saying that I was a tad tipsy. Lucky, I didn't drive, so it was all good. Oh! And I did get to see a shitty-drunk guy almost pass out after asking his boss how he got such a hot wife. WOW. Got to love people. Later on, some of us went bowling--still dressed in our formal wear of course. I love this holiday... It's a great excuse for people to dress like fools, eat lots of candy, and generally act like dumb asses. Speaking of dumb asses, were were told to dress up for work and that there would be a costume contest. So, naturally, I dress up. Makeup, burgundy wings, wig and all. *sigh* Too bad there were only about 5 of us (out of several hundred in the building) that dressed up. Needless to day at least I won second place in the costume contest--not that that was hard or anything. So, I've been to the doctor for the second time in two weeks and for about the one millionth time in the past year. I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment with an asthma and allergy specialist for the 18th of October, so we'll see how that goes... In more "Memoirs of a Geisha" news... I WENT SHOPPING! Not only did I buy a framed movie poster, but I also got some perfume from the Memoirs of a Geisha collection from www.fresh.com (thank you Robert for the heads up--you're the fucking bomb). It is SO sad that I feel the need to buy this stuff, but I can't help myself! FYI-In Japan, the movie will be titled "Sayuri".
