Who else thinks Pepper Potts is the biggest bitch in the yard, and that Rhodey (and Don-blessed-Cheadle) was waaay underused in lieu of snarky villains (who were played quite nicely, a-thank-you)? Anyway, back in the 60's, I'm sure Pepper was cute and her "I'm in charge or I quit!" attitude was probably some sexist view plastered onto the character by male comic book writers (I'm lookin' at you, Stan... I can't back that up, he might've not been the sole writer for the books at the time of creation). Back to Pepper - by today's standards, she's a cold bitch and a quitter and a loser and a whiner and Tony (who doesn't not deserve that kind of treatment) would do much better with a female character opposite him with a little personality, backbone, and warmth. Oh, and with a brain in her head. "What's Operation?" Touche, Miss Potts, touche. Better yet - no female. Like it's supposed to be. He never holds down a relationship. That's the whole idea (thanks, Howard Hughes). The thing is, I don't dislike Gwyneth Paltrow. I think she's fine (not for Pepper, however). They needed someone shorter for starters. She's already taller than RDJ, both barefoot, side-by-side. Add heels to both and you're just asking for trouble. So, I was really anxious to see where Tony/Pepper went, and had high hopes when the first three quarters of Iron Man 2 displayed Pepper and Happy (who get married in the comics) palling around... Then, we get an awkward, post-nagging/career terminating banter kiss... with Pepper and Tony. And even Rhodey (or maybe Don, unscripted) had to point out how wrong it was. Woof. And while I'm on the subject of 'woof', if you're going to use ScarJo, Mr. Favreau, please do it wisely. This version of the Black Widow was ... well, crap. I thought the pay off was going to be that she spoke Russian and she could save the day. Not so. She was just a super-hacker who could do everything under the sun (and model!). Wtf? ... end rant.I'm sure. | |

Forever - Drake]Anna Paquin is bisexual. Okay. And?As a comicbook nerd and bisexual, I'm a little let down by Anna's belated decision to "come out" as bi. Better late than never, you say? No. Not really. Over the past ten years, when she was working on the X-Men films and had the eyes of so very many young people, she might've given us a 'hey - it's okay to love whoever you want!', but she didn't. The actor of the main villain in the franchise and the director of the first two films are both gay men. They're both very successful. X-Men is a story that I believe changes itself and literally "mutates" to mimic whatever social (and personal) issues teens are going through when they're into the books (or films). The stories have always been about being "born different". They are about otherness, and how to deal with it, and how it can be beautiful (or hideous) and how our choices effect our lives and those around us. I feel like she could've really gotten through to a lot of young women (and even young men) if she'd come out during the peak of the films' popularity. And I don't truly see this as a triumph, no matter the chronology. Bisexuals simply aren't treated as poorly as gay people. It's a fact - there are cold numbers to do with crimes and harassment suits and so on. Presently, Anna is metaphorically nestled in the arms of a man she is engaged to. Of course it would be easy to come out and say, "Yeah, I checked out Mystique's ass when we filmed X2," at this juncture. What makes me frustrated, is that so few men come out of the closet in Hollywood. There are loads of gay male entertainers who are simply too afraid to mention their sexual orientation (and even have beard girlfriends and wives) because the truth might damage their careers (I'm looking at you, Hugh Jackman). They are the people who have a chance to do good and be inspirational and save lives. It breaks my heart that people can't be who they truly are, especially when there are those of us who can't (or wouldn't) hide our "otherness".In order to undermine the seriousness and tone I've just laid down, I'd like to share with you some cute blinkies I found of the Simpsons. | [**Tags**|!rant]I'm not a Twilight fan. I haven't read the books. I didn't see the first film in theaters, and I've only seen it once on DVD. However, the fanbase intrigues me. During the release party at our local Wal-Mart last year, I attempted to rile the fangirls by showing up in a Gryffindor jacket, covered in Harry Potter pins, with Hogwarts house bracelets on. My purse displayed an image of this description: Lightning Bolt > Apple. You can guess what that means. Anyway, they intimidated the shit out of me. I'd never seen that sort of white-girl-virginal-solidarity before in my life. Seriously. Like, not even at a Backstreet Boys concert. I wasn't afraid of being beaten up, I was afraid of being eaten up.So I'm going to bust up on the New Moon theater release, I've decided, shouting my excitement about the sequel, all the while pronouncing it 'Tweelight!': "Are you guys excited about Tweelight?! I am!" and "Yay for Tweelight!" and "Go team Cuelen!" and so on. In order to not be eaten alive by rabid fangirls, I think my greatest chance of survival is to beat down the largest, tallest girl there, take her book (because you know she'll have it with her) and claim the position of 'alpha' or 'pack leader' (you have to speak Tweelight or they won't understand). I figure it's a lot like prison. After that, the plan will be to domesticate one of them to ride, or to send for drink refills and the like. Because, I know I won't be able to blink during the film. Oh wait. Yes I will. A lot. Like Bella, apparently. /END HATE. | |
