Creating the Potential for Things to Work (original) (raw)
03 November 2009 @ 07:43 pm
My new place still rules. Commute is a bit of a pain, but worth it. I have enough space to deal with my stuff and I have been. One box at a time.
I've been selling books on Amazon. I'm about to list some stuff on craigslist. I'm going to sell my 2 Desert Torch Tailor corsets.
I'm on vacation this week from all jobs. I just needed the time to relax and work on stuff during regular hours, not way late hours and being exhausted.
This weekend I have a crazy number of options:
1. IMBA meeting in Chambersburg, PA. I'm registered for this and am attending for my bike club. There will be other members attending the AM session only. There is an afternoon session and ride that I was planning on attending. I am, afterall, the grant writing committee with the trail crew lead. He supplies the shopping list, I write to get us the stuff.
2. Atlantian Crown - a household member is now Prince and wrote and said he'd be attending. I wrote back and said I hadn't been planning on it. . .but now I'm tempted to bail on the IMBA thing and retain 'cause I can and feel like I should. It has been WAYYYYYY too long since I've seen that particular friend and household member. I know he'll be busy, but hanging out all day will usually result in enough 'catch-up' time.
3. Cyclocross Race - There is a cyclocross race in Northampton, MA. One of the racers, Jeremy Powers, is from that area, and leads the rankings in Cyclocross. I'm dying to see one of his races, but they are usually when I'm working. I'm OFF but now have too many plans.

Decisions - Decisions - Decisions
Advice welcome.
Yesterday Thor Hushovd of the Cervelo Test Team took the green jersey. Today he was able to hold it.
Tomorrow is a rest day and then on Tuesday they have some flatter sprinter stages before hitting the Alps.
I hope he and his team are able to keep it together so he keeps it for the rest of the tour. It would be cool for Sastre to get up in the GC and take yellow (that would be a surprise as almost everyone in the Astana squad is ahead of him).
Cavendish is the true competitor for Thor's green jersey. He is the fastest sprinter, but Thor has better climbing legs and was able to grab points the last two stages.
There is a plan to finish the penultimate draft of my thesis in the first few days of July.
There is a plan for me to move to start a PA residency clock after Pennsic--not that I'm going to Pennsic, I will be cat sitting and packing. Apt is TBD. The rent is cheap and the neighborhoods aren't any more sketchy than Worcester back in the old B&W days. The cheaper rent will make up for the increase in fuel use. Equivalent rent-fuel ratios put me in dangerous neighborhoods. $800, which is more than I want to spend, put me within two miles of work but in 350 square feet in a neighborhood that has had shootings this year. Less expensive rents put me in 350 square feet in Baltimore in neighborhoods where my survival wasn't assured past moving in - I just wasn't comfy driving through the area - something about drug deals in daylight and at night *shudder.*
PA has more forestry jobs. PA has more acres in trees than MD has acres. State forestry jobs require six months as a PA tax payer. PA forestry or forestry related jobs will be easier to find if one is in PA.
If a forestry gig doesn't work out and my current place of employement offers me a significant raise/promotion, I can always move back.
I'll be going on two bicycling related weekend camping trips later this year in lieu of Pennsic. One in September and one later in September or early October I should think. That would make 3 this year. The first one cost me 25plusthecostofgasofgettingthere.Thenextonewillbe25 plus the cost of gas of getting there. The next one will be 25plusthecostofgasofgettingthere.Thenextonewillbe45 + gas and the third should also be about $45 + gas. (Being a Scadian meant I already had the gear and at least I get to use it.)
The one this spring was a LOT of fun and confirmed me as a rider of terrain. I will be working as well to improve those riding skills and my overall conditioning so I stand a chance of keeping up/catching up quicker this fall.
If my penultimate thesis is accepted for defense, then this fall I will be travelling to NH and defending the thing and hopefully (most likely) being accepted into the MS in Natural Resources: Forestry club. I would graduate in December.
It is all very exciting. Still a hellish amount of work to finish on all fronts, but it should all be worth it.
Today I'm hosting a Star Trek meet-up. We are watching movies and episodes to get ready for the movie.
Tomorrow I go for a bike ride before Job 2.
Next weekend I'm doing trailwork on Saturday and prepping for an exam.
Weekend after. . .I'm going camping with my mountain biking group. Two glorious nights.
So instead of Pennsic this year it looks like I get to go for a 2 night camp stay at Camp Raystown, PA. (It was $25 for the weekend plus food. I've already traded books for a new teeny backpacking tent. Just me, my mountain bike, and the folks I ride with.)
This is my 2nd year without War and it is killing me. The budget dictates though, that unless a sizeable windfall drops into my lap, I'm SOL on that front.
Anyway, I'm having to continue to divest myself of possessions: I will be putting up for sale over the next 3 days the following that may be of interest to my Scadian friends
2 Desert Torch Tailor corsets size 40
1 Darkwood Dagger
1 Fencing jacket
1 Fencing mask
12 11 inch Panther tent stakes
I'm currently selling a 10 pc. German enamel Asta ware set up on eBay. So if you or someone you love is into Asta ware. Direct them to:

I also have a non-mirror box from the mirror box guy at Pennsic that I'll be putting up. Right now it is blank. I do woodburn and paint, so if you want a box for your bling or a gift for someone let me know. We can talk.
Pictures will be forthcoming.
Thanks for your consideration.

I have a desktop system. I haven't plugged it in for 3-4 years. I apparently changed the administrator password without updating the hint 'cause the password isn't taking. Meaning I can't upgrade/patch anything on the system, etc. *There is much shame and embarrassment.*
I have a password scrubber that my roomie loaned me. I put it in and it is asking me to tell it which scsi controller I have my NT disks on.
I have a very long list.
Can someone give me a good idea of where these disks might be? List behind cut below.
Does someone have another way to hack the admin password? I'd prefer to not reformat the system as many of my install disks did not survive one of the many moves over the last couple of years.
( List of SCSI-driversCollapse )
Thanks for any assistance. My system is an XP Pro system.
Thanks!

I'll be in NH from November 3 until November 11.
If anyone wants to catch up that would be cool.
I plan on attending a movie on Tuesday. Can be in Boston area.
I plan on attending dance class Thursday night.
Sunday the 9th I plan on climbing mount hedgehog in NH.
If there is a more convenient night for drinks or something let me know.
See you if I see you.

Fortunately there is beer and vacation in my near future. There will be beer at a meeting tonight. Vacation will be the first week of November, after I finish training everyone three pay grades above me. November 2 - 11 I am planning on being in New Hampshire for my thesis.
Theoretically there is this pressure point on the web of your hand between thumb and forefinger that is supposed to help with headaches. I use this as a habit and I seem to use it a lot. I have a bruise there now.
My day started with a 5 minute conversation with a VP in the parking lot about this training which was announced yesterday. I'm presenting this training and I'm writing the manual and converting 30 departments to the thing the training is about. My day did not improve from there. The smoothest thing I did all day was sending a fax. That is the only thing that went off without a hitch or interruption.
Work is completely kicking my butt. Because of an IS thing the training I was to present in November now starts October 21 for twice as many people as anticipated.
I have to finish the manual for doing the entry because next week I supervise three people on entry to get this thing knocked out. Yes this is a lot of pressure but it really is a good thing. . .because my boss has gotten me help. I have a temp and two fellow employees to get this thing cranked out before the deadline.
Tonight I have to meet briefly on my event. (Stressed there, but not panicky.) I am going to help with their beer surplus because I need one so I can sleep tonight.
Tonight I have a few more pieces to embroider and bring back the machine for spikeywheel - Sorry it is going to be another midnight delivery.
The pressure point has failed and I'm going to see if food will help and if not, I'm going to Advil very quickly.

This means it is not a good night for someone.

Today I'm staying home. I do have a headache but it mostly has to do with:
A coworker, who started her Tower career as a temp last year was found dead yesterday. She was someone I directly supervised as a temp. She was going to be on the softball team next year with me.
She was a diabetic whose blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol were out of control and she would monitor it all and try to control through diet. She had access to the meds, she had the health insurance and was willing to deal with all other health issues, but denied that she needed drugs to control these three major risk factors. In the year that I knew her. . .diet wasn't working.
OK, the benefits of the shower have worn off and I'm going back to bed.
