I haven't written poetry in AGES. And I suppose that a few loose ends of my own crazy life, too much Nightwing fun, and reading "Water for Elephants" before the film comes out just got this out of my system. I'm on a circus kick so I have to share.

And I'm a total sucker for allegories. So I mean a LOT of what I say here. ;)

Life's a Circus

Ladies and Gentlemen...

Boys and Girls...

Children of all ages...

Welcome to the greatest show on Earth!

...your life.

That's right.

It's a circus.

And if you want to waste it clowning around, be my guest.

But to fly under the Big Top?

Some advice, if I may...

The Ringmaster isn't truly the guy in charge.

He's just a puppet.

You don't want to know who's REALLY in charge.

He makes the Bearded Lady seem lovely.

Some days will be full of shit.

The kind only elephants can make.

And you'll break your back shoveling it.

Only to find horse shit has taken its place.

And that people too behave like animals.

Others you'll be at the top of your game.

You'll feel like you're flying.

Flying through the air with plenty of ease.

Flips and tricks which you've only dreamt possible.

And when the safety net is faulty,

You'll still be caught in the arms of those you trust.

And others still you'll be on the road.

Mile after mile, stuck in your caboose.

Both hesitant and anxious for your next big score.

Rest then, for peaceful times come rarely.

And usually are taken for granted.

You'll meet plenty of folk.

Some will make the clowns seem serious.

Others the monkeys intelligent.

And some still will have you fall for their tricks

A dozen times over.

Rabbit. Hat. Dinner. Fire.

Never doubt just how things may be connected.

You'll see plenty of sights.

The rise and fall of something great many times over.

Knowing that you played a part in both start and finish.

And each time you do it will just be a little bit different.

Because life's a circus.

And no matter what happens, the show must go on.

Break a leg!
