Smoke and Mirrors (original) (raw)

So…. Everyone please feel free to blame chiiyo for this random epistle on a long-forgotten journal. Just got your letters dear and just one question… *arch brow* how many *should* I be expecting? I’ve gotten two envelopes so far but somehow I don’t believe they’re the entire missive… Still *mwah* Thanks for the letter and to everyone else’s good wishes who found their way onto the pretty paper.

Also… HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the sender of the pink and blue letter so far… may all your dreams come true though I don’t believe you’re spending it in quite the precise fashion you had hoped for *sheepish* Unfortunately, I suck in the whole birthday thing and there’s no pretty papers floating your way, but all the best and may your dreams come true.

Since I’m online and posting something I might as well randomly post about some other things more for fun.

My past weekend was actually surprisingly eventful – not counting the event of going back to work on Saturday – but more going to watch James Blunt in the evening. It was a nice old theater and the opening act – Starsailor – was great. A lot of energy and the singer was very good. We were sitting right in front though on the left, right in front of the speakers.

I have to say that when the first song played, I truly knew what it meant to be “touched” by music. SONIC BOOM! Still, it was great fun to actually be able to *SEE* the band. In the other concerts, I’ve been to so far, they’ve been more a squishy figure in the distance, slightly smaller than a lego man.

After that, my friend and I bought the CD and got a free T-shirt (Yes.. yes, I know, my $25 probably covered both) but still, we managed to get it autographed by the four members of the band which was cool and I like the T-shirt too. The design’s actually pretty enough that I’d wear it out.

Then it was James Blunt and he’s cute. Both bands were great, a lot of energy and charisma and rapport with the audience and barring a fanatical screaming woman behind us that *THANKFULLY* moved to the front center seats (to the unfortunate dismay of those who were occupying those seats), it was loads of fun.

Though James Blunt is surprisingly short…But a good performer. Not as good a singer as the first band’s but he was good nonetheless. Played some new material and I’m definitely getting the next album if/when it comes out though he said that nothing had been recorded yet just in case it was absolute “shite.”

I love the British accent.

Randomly, some of the songs he sings on the album makes a lot more sense when in concert. When he sings to the audience, the lyrics become a conversation or speech. An example is “Beautiful” which I swear is probably the most melodic refusal song in the world. In person it reads something like, “You’re beautiful, you’re an angel, but I’ll never be with you.” Because really… it’s not you, it’s me.

Riiiight. The other one was “So long, Jimmy.” Which is almost egotistical because it’s a song that the audience should be singing to him. Especially when you read the lyrics. Though I have to admit it was a rollicking good time and in some ways I did wish I did write that song so maybe he wasn’t being a complete prat after all.

Maybe. Heh.

After that, I did on Sunday what I did for my birthday. Absolutely nothing. Absolutely gorgeous. Though marred slightly by a growing obsession with window browsing on Amazon.

And on that note, Amazon is evil. EVIL! Initially, their recs page wasn’t very good, recommending things that I’d had before. And since I like doing little tickies, I started helpfully indicating what I did have before… but… but… but now… now… THEY’RE ACTUALLY RECOMMENDING ME THINGS I DON’T HAVE AND WANT!

THERE ARE SO MANY DVDS AND BOOKS THAT I WANT! WHEN WILL THIS END?! *sob* My wish list is now approximately 60+ items, which is a little bit of a concern since I only had about 6 items on it for a really long stretch before.

As it is, I’m telling myself that until one or two certain items go from pre-order to available, I won’t buy anything. But when that happens… it’s empty wallet time. I’m just trying to figure out how much I can control myself.

For some of the items, I suspect that I’m more in love in possessing it than actually in love with it…which is a sad sad reflection of how far I’ve fallen from being reader to just owner. But… they’re pretty! They sound pretty! And for some of them I keep thinking of people I know who might like it (not necessarily me) so why don’t I just get it and lend it and read it in my spare time.*snort cough laugh*

Well… yes. But we shall see. Some part of me is telling me to buy everything now while other says hell no. There are reasons for both and we shall see on which side my wallet falls when those certain items change from light yellow to orange.

Also, this might be late but everyone needs to go watch “Flushed Away”. It was surprisingly cute so if anyone’s in the mood for a light, fluffy pick me up, that’s it.
