Comprehensive and Long Term Planning (original) (raw)

Long-range planning in Manchester involves strategic research, statistical analysis, and comprehensive information management to guide the Town's development. Our department supports the Plan of Conservation and Development along with various special studies, ensuring that growth and progress align with the Town's vision for the future. This planning process helps shape policies and actions that enhance our community's quality of life and drive sustainable development.

Manchester NEXT: Plan of Conservation and Development

The Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) is a long-range policy document that establishes visions and goals and guides Town growth through 2033. The POCD is used to help guide and improve livability, economics, mobility, recreation, employment, housing, and resilience throughout the Town.

The State of Connecticut requires municipalities and regional councils of government to prepare and update their respective plans of conservation and development at least once every ten years. The most recent update to the Manchester POCD, known as Manchester NEXT, went into effect on July 13, 2023. The Planning and Zoning Commission and the Town are currently working on carrying out the recommendations of Manchester NEXT.
