Emmerdale's William Ash teases 'dark' future for Caleb Miligan (original) (raw)
The actor admits Caleb wants to get his edge back
Emmerdale actor William Ash has teased that Caleb Miligan will go down a dark path in the Dales after he learns he has been scammed in upcoming episodes.
Will Ash joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2022 to take on the role of Caleb Miligan in the ITV soap. He's been involved in some of the biggest storylines over the last few years.
This has included him helping to cover up the murder of his father-in-law Anthony Fox after it was revealed that he had sexually abused Ruby Miligan, and was also the biological father of Steph.
Caleb also became to the target of Joe Tate's kidney heist, with him being attacked outside of the depot before waking up later on in hospital missing his kidney.
In upcoming episodes, Caleb finds himself the victim of a scam after receiving a phone call from "Steph". He soon realises he has been scammed out of the five grand he previously sent to who he thought was his daughter in need.
Caleb’s humiliated to have been so easily scammed. When Ruby mentions that the scammer knew a private detail about Laurel and Ross, Caleb decides to call the police as he vows revenge on whoever did this.
Later, Caleb tells Billy he intends to regain his lost ‘edge’ by starting a counterfeit goods operation suggesting that the depot would be the perfect place to run the operation. He tries to sway Billy with a percentage cut, which leaves Billy seriously considering.
He pressures a reluctant Billy into doing a pick-up for their illegal side hustle by offering him 8% of the profits. Caleb warns Billy to keep their scheme a secret from Jai, clearly enjoying his return to crime.
Speaking to the Mirror, Will shared: "He feels he might be losing his edge. That all feeds Caleb’s ego of wanting to be the one who does people over, and he's the one that's been done over.
"Caleb's panicking a bit. He drags in Billy who starts doing really well and he's brilliant with customers and he drums up new customers, with some quite lucrative contracts."
The actor went onto tease that this storyline could send him down a more dangerous path, with Caleb returning to his dark side ever so slightly. He added: "It's always fun. It gets a bit more complex and complicated, that compulsion to kind of push the boundaries all the time. He wants to get his edge back.
"He realises that they can make a bit of money from it and he's probably dodging tax on it and all that, so he realises he wants to maximise his profits.
"Another avenue does open up for him where he can counterfeit but in another way. He does start going down that darker route, but he loves it."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX and YouTube from 7am.
