Green Line Extension (GLX) | Projects (original) (raw)
- Contract awarded: November 2017
- Construction schedule:
- Union Branch: Opened March 21, 2022
- Medford Branch: Opened December 12, 2022
- Budget: $2.3 billion
- Status: Complete
GLX provides service in areas that historically did not have access to fast and reliable public transit. By supporting an increased ridership of more than 50,000 trips per day, this project will significantly reduce vehicle emissions on the road.
The GLX Community Path is in its final phase of construction and is expected to open in mid-June 2023. Final work items are underway to prepare for public access. The MBTA and City of Somerville have agreed for the City to become the operator of the Community Path. This section will complete the connection from Bedford, MA into Cambridge, Boston, and beyond.
Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
