Acute Systemic Lupus. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is the most common form of lupus, where inflammation from a faulty immune system inflames a number of organs or organ systems. Often, a “butterfly” rash forms on the face that stretches across the bridge of the nose to both cheeks and bridges the nose. Lupus is often associated with fever and pain in the joints as well as fatigue. It can also affect organs like the kidneys, heart and brain.
