The first rule of a good werewolf flick, or any horror flick for that matter, is to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, whereas Farrell mostly keeps us guessing.
This story isn't the flashiest werewolf tale, but it is worth seeing thanks to a fresh perspective. As flawed as the story may be, the story from a child's eyes offers a new and unique entry point for the subgenre.
Shame that they've marketed it as a horror - it's a poignant, dark family drama well worth the watch, but if you're looking for jump scares its not the one
A harrowing modern fairytale that **** you in slowly and then smashes you in the face. Farrells ability to convey terror in these actors performances is such a skill, a skill directors nowadays are missing because they’re so focused on spectacle. You must see this movie.
Despite having an interesting take on werewolves, The Beast Within proves to be a middling experience.
The Beast Within has nothing much to offer except the domestic violence allegory at its center, so Farrell repeatedly emphasizes, spotlights, and underlines it in red, just in case anyone was unclear about what the film was really about.
The performances are more effective than affecting, although every player has her or his “moment.” There are interesting ideas thrown in, but they’re bandied about, not really addressed or dealt with.

Honestly, I have nothing but praise for such a sensitive and gorgeous horror movie that has a poignant, relevant message. In a world where content gets consumed so quickly, I found this such a heart wrenching story and loved the use of the werewolf. No spoilers! But it’s awesome! All the cast are incredible. Kit Harington is so good but Caoillinn Springall steals the entire show. What an incredible young actress. She carries the movie and it’s worth the watch, just for her performance.
What a refreshing take on a subgenre I’ve been DYING to see more of! Kit Harrington is AMAZING. A slow burn, beautifully crafted and sensitively delivered movie. Highly recommend watching in cinema. The sound is epic.
A poignant tale of monsters and family. A deathly complex fairytale. A must watch.
The Beast Within doesn't offer anything new. It's nice to see Kit Harrington in action again with a different role, but other than that, the movie is just a story that everybody already knows.
