Name(s) in local language(s):
Pegmatiti di Nibbio-Val Faera (Nibbio-Val Fredda), Mergozzo, Val d'Ossola, Provincia del Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piemonte, Italia
Pegmatite veins hosted in the kinzigite formation of the Ivrea-Verbano Zone.
Well-known occurrences are reported from the steep rock wall to the north-est of Nibbio village and from the upper Val Faera or Valle di Nibbio. This rugged valley, which separates the municipal territories of Mergozzo and Premosello-Chiovenda, is closed to the north by the Bocchetta di Valfredda pass and delimited on its right and left sides by the ridges Pizzo Proman-Pizzo Voggia and Pizzo del Lesino-Corni di Nibbio respectively.
Some mineralogical publications (De Michele, 1966; Del Caldo et al., 1973) and collection labels improperly indicates such valley as Val Fredda (deriving its name from the toponym Bocchetta di Valfredda, the narrow pass which connects it with the real Val Fredda, a right side-valley of the Grande Valley).
Graphite and titanite from Val Faera or Valle di Nibbio were mentioned for the first time by Jervis (1873), zircon by Fagnani (1947).
