Copper mine, active since (at least) the early 20th century. Originally named Dzansuli mine (or Dzansul mine); was for a few years part of Georgia ("Batumi, Adjara, Georgia"). Later owned by Black Sea Copper Works Corp. The "Cakmakkaya mine" was started in 1985. Currently (2023) the mine is operated by Eti Bakır A.Ş.

2,500 people are directly employed at Samsun, Küre, Murgul, Halıköy and Espiye metallurgical plants.

East Pontides belt.
Senonian felsic volcanic sequence (breccias and tuffs) with early disseminated ore, stockworks and late small lodes (rich in Se/Te).

Çakmakkaya represents one of the largest copper reserves in Turkey, having estimated reserves of 100 million tonnes of ore grading 0.8% iron. The 100 million tonnes of ore contains 800,000 tonnes of copper metal.
