Name:

Named after the ancient region of Sogdia/Sogdiana that at different times included territory located in present-day Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. It existed from the 6th century BC to the 11th century AD. The type locality is in this region.
