Katie Price's former surgeon hit with warning after 'clamping patient's mouth' (original) (raw)
Dr Jeya Prakash, 74, held his hand across the woman's lips claiming he wanted her to 'calm down' after she began complaining that her breast augmentation procedure was taking too long to heal
Katie Price's first surgeon found himself being questioned at a medical tribunal
Katie Price's former cosmetic surgeon was slapped with a warning after a formal complaint from a patient. It was heard during a medical tribunal that Dr Jeya Prakash, whose birth name is Annamalaikani Jeyapragash silenced a patient with his hand during a consultation at his Harley Street clinic.
The 74-year-old doctor placed his hand over the woman's mouth to quieten her when she voiced concerns about the prolonged healing process of her breast implants. She claimed in a medical tribunal that the doctor clamped her mouth shut 'like a vice' and that the experience left her in tears. Referred to as Patient A, she returned to Dr Prakash for further meetings before deciding to cease all visits with the doctor who she claimed once boasted of finding the 'secret of eternal youth'.
Following significant distress, the patient sought help at her GP's office where she claimed a nurse was "horrified" by her wounds which had not healed as expected. She said the nurse advised her not to return to Prakash. Following advice from the nurse and her GP, Patient A made a formal complaint on November 4, 2021.

According to the findings of the Medical Practitioners' Tribunal she claims: "As soon as Dr [Jeyapragash] did this, I burst into tears and couldn’t speak. It happened quite quickly and he released me within a few seconds but that was enough. I then rolled to the right to push myself up off the examination bed and this took me quite a while as I had back issues. I got up as soon as I could and said very firmly, ‘How dare for you to touch me like that?'
"I got dressed and Dr [Jeyapragash] apologised profusely just saying he was sorry. I didn’t want to listen and fled the room half-dressed and in tears.I went to the toilet and got myself together and then left the Clinic. [Ms C] was in the room at the time and either saw or sensed what had happened. My husband was waiting in the car for me and saw how upset I was. He was furious and told me never to return to see Dr [Jeyapragash]."
Found responsible by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service for 'physically controlling behaviour', Prakash has been left with a warning on his General Medical Council record for two years for his actions towards [Patient A.] The Manchester hearing was informed that Patient A had a bilateral breast reduction performed by Prakash at the London Welbeck Hospital in September 2020.
Although the surgery was successful, complications arose during her recovery, including delayed wound healing. She saw Prakash for 30 follow-up appointments between 20 October 2020 and 13 October 2021. Patient A testified: "I was lying on the examination bed with my breasts exposed and doctor was standing on the right side of the bed. He asked me how the wound was and I said that I was fed up with travelling to see him and all the breast discomfort and the ugly hole in my new breast.
"Before I could even draw breath to finish my sentence, he grabbed my lips with his right hand and twisted them really hard together like they were in a vice. He did this with force and to shut me up. It really hurt."

Prakash argued that he had been 'generous' with his time and had spent his own money on consumables and medical equipment. He stated that he had trusted Patient A and 'felt betrayed' that she had turned against him.
The surgeon added: "On the 6th of August 2021, the patient attended the clinic. She was very stressed about the healing. While I was trying to calm her down, I put my hand on to her mouth and was explaining [to] her about the nature of the healing. She was upset that I used my hand to settle her down. I apologised [a] few times. She accepted the apology and had the dressing for two tiny spots and left quietly. My pure intention was to calm her down not to upset her."
In an email marked for the attention of the Tribunal which was dated June 10, 2024, Jeyapragash said: "Regarding the incident where Patient A alleges I grabbed and twisted her lips, I want to clarify that I put my hand over her mouth to calm her down and immediately apologized for any distress caused. After this, I proceeded to dress her wound. Although she was not pleased with this, she subsequently calmed down, had some water, and made another appointment for two weeks later. A copy of this appointment is attached, as recorded in our Clinico appointment system, clearly showing the appointment made on that date.
"Patient A's claim that she left the Clinic half-dressed and in tears is not accurate. On October 1st 2021, she attended an appointment with her husband, who did not mention the alleged incident from August 6th 2021." The tribunal was shown a text exchange in which Patient A told Prakash's PA: "Hi I feel very upset the way he manhandled me. How much does he want me to pay for the PRP injection? I feel it should be free after a year of my post op trauma. Don't tell him I said this but my husband doesn't want me to go back to him."
Prakash has known glamour model Katie Price since 1996 when he performed her first and second breast augmentations. Years later, he turned down her request for a facelift amid fears she was addicted to cosmetic surgery. Recalling her visiting his office in 2022 he told The Mirror: "I said she doesn't need a facelift. Then she went to other places where people didn't look after her health, they looked after her image. Health is very important.'
"I said no, because she seemed to have an addiction to surgery with what she wanted to do. She's a small, petite lady. I always tell her that a squirrel shouldn't have elephant breasts." However, this didn't stop Katie as she recently jetted off to Turkey in July for her sixth facelift. It comes amid fears from other surgeons that the £10,000 procedure could leave her with serious side effects including the appearance of a stroke.
