Piers Morgan has slated the Met Gala - taking aim at the guest list and comparing the Hollywood stars on display to strippers.
The 59-year-old broadcaster is never one to hold back on his opinions - and has unleashed both barrels at the annual celeb-filled fashion event. The Met Gala is a fashion and social gathering - regarded as one of the biggest fashion events of the year. It takes place on the first Monday of May in New York City with celebs invited by Vogue magazine boss Anna Wintour to attend - but they need to stump up $75,000 (£60,000) for the invite-only ticket.
The event is a glitzy fundraiser in order to help support the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in Manhattan, New York. But the charitable element is completely eclipsed by the fashion frenzy as fans gawp at the red carpet to see what stylish - or crazy - designs the A List attendees arrive wearing.
Eyebrows have been raised at the 2024 gala as many stars took the suggestion ‘less is more’ to the extreme by rocking up wearing next to nothing. Rita Ora wearing a few ribbons that barely covered her front and back - and seemed to have no underwear on. Rap star Dojo Cat arrived wearing a nude-tone, sheer pair of leggings and top clearly showing off her underwear. And others also opted for transparent or barely their outfits.

The array of titillating outfits appears to have captured former TalkTV host Piers’s attention - but for all the wrong reasons. Taking to X, the broadcaster lashed out at those attending - writing in a scathing post: “The Met Gala seemed very low on A-list stars and very high on C-list strippers.”
His fans and social media followers were surprised by his outburst - with one slamming back: “Crazy how you weren’t invited.” And another sneered: “damn that would include you as well!!!! on top of the C-list.”
One fan appeared to agree with Piers’s opinion, writing: “Sadly the dress code for all events these days seems to be ‘go for the shock’ or ‘as naked as possible’. Hollywood and celebrities have sunk so low I don't think there's any coming back.” And another grumbled: “Very lame Met Gala this year.”
During the night, chart topping star Ariana Grande took to the stage inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art where she performed a spine tingling rendition of the iconic Sleeping Beauty song Once Upon A Dream. While her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo also performed inside the event on the night. The theme of the night was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
Discussing the theme of the night, Anna Wintour said on Today in the USA: “When we came up with the title ‘Sleeping Beauties,’ it’s wonderful and poetic and romantic, but actually, it could be many, many things. I said, ‘What are we gonna say to people to wear to this night?’ And [MET Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton] said, ‘Well, what about ‘Garden of Time?’ So, I fear that we’ve unleashed a lot of confusion out there, and for which I deeply apologize.”
