The West Midlands club were a founding member of the Football League in 1888 and have enjoyed plenty of success - winning three league titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups. Wolves' most successful period came in the 1950s and early 1960s. Under the management of Stan Cullis, they won the First Division (now the Premier League) three times in 1954, 1958, and 1959.

They also claimed the FA Cup in 1949 and 1960 and reached the semi-finals of the European Cup (now UEFA Champions League) in 1959-60, becoming the first English club to do so.

The club enjoyed a resurgence in the late 2000s under manager Mick McCarthy, earning promotion to the Premier League in 2009. However, they were relegated back to the Championship after just one season. The club returned to the Premier League in 2018 under the management of Nuno Espírito Santo and achieved considerable success, finishing 7th in their first season back in the top flight and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.
